What kind of stuff are in Summer Camp? I know there will be sensei from Japan showing up and all that. But what EXACTLY do yo do there? Just watch 'n learn? Just wondering for future reference and don't tell me to ask my sensei, he's outta town and we don't have class this week :P

It's considered an advanced class over the weekend. There is a schedule that was published along with the note, I'll link it here so you don't have to do a search.

Most of the weekend will be seminars, but there will be several keiko sessions. Depending on your experience level, you may or may not really find it helpful.

Thanks much Joe, that's something I might do in the future then. And probably won't able to do in at least 5 years, ahhaha

I just noticed your location. Are you in the Minnehaha Kendo Club? That is my dojo. I didn't know Sensei was out of town since I couldn't be there this Saturday. Which one are you? I'm the small girl with thick glasses, if you've been there a while, and haven't just now started.

Ciochran-sensei likely wouldn't recommend to you to go this year, but if you work hard, maybe next year! It's really fun there. We work very hard on many things. Kihon practice, kata, and stuff like that.

Edit: Saw your profile... Yup, you must be in my dojo then. :D When did you start?

I agree with Kaoru, it's probably a little early in your kendo studies to go to Summer Camp, because most of the stuff they'll be discussing is really for advanced students. That doesn't mean you can't go!

Oh... You're the one I met a couple weeks ago, right? :D Cool! Welcome to the forum! Yeah, I know. I am missing practice! Waaaaa... Oh, and thanks. Nationals are this week-end, so I guess that's why. What have we been doing in practice the last couple weeks? I want to be able to work on recent Kihon. Any notes that he's given?

BTW, I went to the AUSKF summer camp after the 1st week I began Kendo. It was confusing but fun! I was invited by another sensei, so that's why I went. You could go to the MWKF summer camp in August. :) Let me know if you're gonna go to either one. I'm trying to go to at least one of them.

I'm the new...chick...

chick = young of fowl, especially of chickens. Likes to peep a lot. LOL

I remember back in the early 70's when the feminist movement was just starting up. The women at my college were upset that the guys would call them chicks.

Those were the days Joe, those were the days.

A seminar in my opinion is useful for every level of Kenshi, being inmersed(sp?) in Kendo a weekend long is usually a good incentive for people to aim for. Plus you always make new friends and see and learn from others who are very advanced. I would say go for it. (If the budget allows, of course)

I certainly would welcome anyone who made the trip to the Summer Camp. I think it would give them a great experience, meeting other kendo people and learning things that they might not get to see for years.

I know budgetary constraints are a prime reason why many people can't make it. I have the same problem, but I will not be staying in the hotel, but will drive the 100 miles from my home to the school. I'm going to be "housesitting" while my brother and sister-in-law is in Alaska and my nephews are at band camp.

Mugu, if you can make it, I'm sure you'll be happy with the things you'll learn.

Well, this is not even the 70's. I know a lot of women get upset being called 'chicks' or 'birds' (in England). I don't care... not every woman has a sense of humor :D I do, so bite me :D
