Do you know who directed the fighting scenes in The Last Samurai? They're really great.

Nick Powell was the Stunt coordinator, Melissa Stubbs was the Assistant coordinator and Lauro Chartrand was the Fight coordinator. Robert "Rock" Galotti was in charge of training the Stunt performers on fire arm safty.
The main Stunt performers, I believe there was ten to fifteen of them, had a six week intense training program. The training program had horse falls, sword training, fire arms training, fire burn training and so on.The Back ground Stunts which there was one hundred and four of them had a two week intensive training program. They had only Sword and fire arms training. After which there was a additional two hundred or so Back Ground guys who had a quick one week training program that focused mainly on sword play.
