That reminds me... one day my former girlfriend watched "The Passion" with some family members and went to me and said "Why did the Jews kill Jesus?". To say the least I went on a bit of a rampage on that question.
Speaking of "The Passion" their are too many Christan movies and not enough of othe religious movies. For example, a shinto move: "See that Rock... that big one.... It has shime-nawa! Show respect dammit". "Can the Kami change my life" "Uhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmm, err..... THE BIG ROCK WITH SHIMENAWA!!! RESPECT!!!! Actauly, no. God(capitalised is a term for a monotheistic relegion. God(capitalised) refers to the Judeo/Christian/Muslim god, as they are all essentialy the same god, but worshipped differantly. There are some ancient Monotheistic(or semi- monotheistic) religions that might have the concept of God(one single), but not be the same god(jehovah) as we are reffering to in the Judeo/Christian/Muslim sense. Then you get into god(lower cased) can refer to the Judeo/Christian/Muslim god, when comparing it to a pagan or other monotheistic deity, or to another deity itself. Dont you hate the English language in all its complexity:)(no rude comments on my spelling and grammar, its 5:30 in the morning and im sleepy).
So God=God Only when refering to Judaism, Christianity, or Islam

Religion......The world is allot better of without it. God is but a word. To some of us that's quite offensive. If people chose to belive in a religion, then what's wrong with that? If you think religion is a waste of time, then what is it you believe in? Surely you must believe in something if not religion. To those that do follow a religion, it gives them a purpose in life and something to live by. Again, I ask you: what's wrong with that?

I've never said that It was wrong to believe. sometimes I wish I could believe. Believe that something awaits me after my death. Just the thought of me disappearing completly after my death is indeed quite saddening. I believe that maybe thats one of the reasons someone thought of religion in the first place. But I must ask you this. Why must I believe in something? why can't one just live and die as time goes by.
Nodaka. I don't know if you're childishly trying to set yourself higher by talking down to me, if you do I may point out that it's quite pathetic.
If you've read my previous posts surely you must have realized that I dont believe in religon or god. So how am I to gain further experience in the subject if I don't believe it to exist? I do wonder however. Do you believe yourself to be more experienced in subject? perhaps you've even spoken to "God" himself. Enlighten me if you please.

I can of course not speak for Scandinavia as a whole, but I have a quite good view of Sweden :)
Large parts of Sweden are more or less atheistic or agnostic. Most people believe in "something" but few go to church. Unless someone is getting married/buried, or it's christmas.
The youth is unfortunately anti-religious in most aspects. Believing in God as a 14-year old is not very common. At least, very few people openly admit that they believe in God or go to church.
As in the US, there is a swedish Bible belt as well, where you can find lots and lots of more ore less conservative or/and fundamentalist groups.
Do you know where you found the figures? I would love to see them :)
I was a non-believer during the first half of my teens. I sort of blamed most ugly things in the world on religion and especially christianity. Later I sort of discovered how stupid this was and turned religious instead. Now I am frequently mixing religions as I see fit. I believe in God, but I really think the Bible is a waste of time and has only diverted people to argue about details while forgetting the bigger picture.

Well we can only hope that as the years go by, smarter on the ways of life we should hope to become.Unfortunately I've found this is often not the case. What is the case, though, is that people who don't like what someone younger than them has to say will fall back on "Wait until you get older" when they have no other leg to stand on. And I have a knee-jerk reaction to it. Atheism is a perfectly valid stance - there have been and still are many, many old, intelligent atheists in the world.

I have no problem with religion as long as it does not affect others.
I can see religious ignorance every day since my sister is a lesbain, thus I will start my rant. Religious Fundementalists have said that Gay marrige cannot be alloved for various reasons:
Marriage is christain - Marriage is part of Shinto, buddist, Hindi, Wiccan and neo-pagain religions. Thust it IS NOT just christain
It goes against the bible - Yes, like the bible has never been edited! Also, some groups support it. Not to mention that everyone is not christain.
I dislike Butt S*x - I find it disturbing too.... thats why I don't look at people doing it.
I think that in the end this quote summons things up:
"
Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control are not natural.
Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people cannot get legally married because the world needs more children.
Obviously gay parents will raise gay children because straight parents only raise straight children.
Straight marriage will be less meaningful, since Britney Spears's 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.
Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and it hasn't changed at all: women are property, Blacks can't marry Whites, and divorce is illegal.
Gay marriage should be decided by the people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of minorities.
Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are always imposed on the entire country. That's why we only have one religion in America.
Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people makes you tall.
Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage license.
Children can never succeed without both male and female role models at home. That's why single parents are forbidden to raise children.
Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven't adapted to cars or longer lifespans.
Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a "separate but equal" institution is always constitutional. Separate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as separate marriages will for gays & lesbians."
Post angry comments (or good ones) NOW!
PS - So in short as long as your religion only affects you and your religious friends and not the rest of us I see no problem with it.

I'm a Catholic that leans towards the political right and religiously, I'm against gay-marriage but if two gay people want to go and get married, I'm not going to stop them because it's not my place to do so. Homosexuality I'm against for biological and physiological reasons. Men's bodies aren't made to copulate with other men (unless you go for the back door but that's something off topic) and the same thing with women's bodies. But again, just because I feel this way doesn't mean homosexuals can't get together and be happy. No one has the right to impose their will over another. If you are a homosexual couple that want's to get married, then move to a state where it is legal or lobby the state legislature to change the laws and then get married. To sum it up, it's your life to do what you will with it. Just don't impose upon mine in the process.

Yes, but it is soon getting to a point where they cannot marry. Also, If you dont like the idea of them copulating... dont think of it.... Everyone has the right to love.
So how is it that you can be "against gay-marriage" yet you say that If they "want to go and get married, I'm not going to stop them because it's not my place to do so."
The thing is that becuse of thoses against gay-marriage they cannot marry. You also suggest that they should move. I think that people should not have to move accross the country just becuse people disagree with them.
I'm just saying that they deserve the right regardless of how you feel about it. It they ARE allowed to marry It won't affect you in any way. Shur you might see gay couples but thats when you simply just look away. Do you think that they love seeing hetrosexual couples?
Just a thought

It even makes me laugh of crazyness, why would you even think that you had the right to decide over another humans life? to decide what another should do? It sickens me beyond belief. Ironically the god they speak of would condemn such people straight to hell. Today religion seems to me as nothing more than stain on the shirt of humanity. Hopefully someday we will get rid of it. ta ta.

Isn't "Stain on the shirt" a little bit too far? I beleave that all religions ('cept scientology) are good but get corrupted once they get human superiors. (pope for the catholics, Head preist? for the other christain denominations, and even in shinto their was the cr@pfest of "State Shinto)
I mean heck! Have you ever heard of the "United church of Christ"? Their are also some intresting sources (http://www.gaychurch.org/) out there. ^o^

Large parts of Sweden are more or less atheistic or agnostic. Most people believe in "something" but few go to church. Unless someone is getting married/buried, or it's christmas.
I spent about half a year in Gothenburg but many people that I have met do go to church. There are churches all arround and they even tried to convert me. In the end that really surprised me since you have a split off religion invented by a former king (gustaff?) but based on the roman catholic believes.
Best regards,
Louis

that was more of a rude retort aimed at an overtly smug answer. calling the vast majority a stain on the shirt of humanity is mildly insulting. This is turning into another argument of "im right because im right" like some of the other threads about religion have.
You know what the wild thing is, this thread was started to be a funy joke about a guy with the username God(and Jesus and various others), that were made to poke fun at some overly puffed up people in another thread. The person who made God and I thought this would turn into a good lagh and stop the insult contest that had been going on(wich has now started with new people(although similar regions...)again) in another thread.

well, theres really not much else to do at church. i've been to church twice in my life. my holy pilgrimage lasted two miles and then i realized that my favorite tv show was on.
but being serious, i dont see a reason to have to go to church every sunday. if i was God, i'd be pretty annoyed that a ton of people just decided to show up at my house every week, eat all my crackers and drink all my wine.
i'll only go to church on easter with my family if theres nothing else to do.
i think an ideal for God would to be more like the godfather. people pray to god and he grants the prayers (sometimes) without getting anything in return. i think that if your prayer is answered, you have to do something for god in return.
thats just my dumb input though...

All I'm doing is pointing out that some religious people and groups like to interfere with people lives. It's happening more and more in the US and it just pisses me off. These groups are trying to legislate morality - and they're slowly turning the US into a fascist state.
Someone mentioned the UCC in some thread in here. Now there's a good religious group. Unitarians? Love em. But when some group tells me how I should live my life - well, that's where I draw the line.

I live in what Rick Santorum calls a liberal bastion. In fact, we're so liberal we brought the catholic sex scandal on ourselves (according to Santorum - ignoring the fact that it has happened all over the country and the world).
Now, what do I call white, black and gay people? White, black and gay. There you go - from the bastion of liberalism, you heard it.
The thing about PCness is that no one is trying to legislate it. It's a nonissue. The first amendment says that you can call anyone anything you want. The theocracy is being legislated, however, and it's just plain wrong.

not matter what i call you whether its african american, caucasian or someone of a different lifestyle, you're still black, white or gay in the end. who decided that these words were negatvie anyway? i know that each of those terms has negative versions of them and thats why we dont say them but instead call people black, white or gay. the point im trying to make is that you cant change things because you think thier negative. if someone calls me white or gay or somthing of that nature, i wont give a second though to it but if someone calls me causasian, i'll give tham a funny look. its almost insulting that people dont want to offend me. like im going to beat them up if they call me white.
