I know this is a kendo forum dealing with japanese martial arts. but i was just wondering if anyone knows the different styles of chinese sword fighting.
I am just interested to see how the training is compared to kendo and iaijutsu

My knowledge of Chinese sword styles is very limited but I can make a few brief comments.
It seems to be smaller than kendo. By that, I mean the swings and strikes are not the wide, big swings that you often see. Sometimes I see that in Chinese sword forms, but it seems to be 75 percent small movements (at least in the form I learned).
There is more of an emphasis put on thrusts (probably parries too).
It also seems like the style is more concerned about small nicks and cuts. Kendo goes for big cuts that can decapitate people, for example. My example of a small cut in Chinese swords is one where you try and make a nice little cut at the opponents ankle. If you hit precisely the right spot on the big artery down there, the opponent will bleed themselves dry in about a minute. Another example is that I have seen many small, well placed cuts to the opponents wrist that is holding the sword. If he has no weapon, then the fight will end pretty easily. :) Other things I have seen in the form seem to suggest more of a smaller cutting/striking style than Kendo.
