That no matter how well you wear your bogu, how well it fits or how skilled a kendoka you are... you are gaurenteed to get hit hard in a spot where the bogu does not cover during jigeiko... damn.... I'm all sorta bruised up.....

It got me out of a test once. I skipped class in college one day, turns out it was a test day, and I plum forgot. However, I did have a huge bruse (infact you could see the bamboo shape in it) on my ribs. You know the spot, when a Do goes to high. Well, I went to the instructor as soon as I found out I missed a test and told him that I was sorry I missed class. Then I showed hime my buise. He said don't worry about it (with huge eyes looking at what appeared to be a major injury). I never said I missed class because of it, he just assumed. hehe

Once, I was in jigeiko and I got hit on my elbow on the funny bone. So naturally, I did what I could, but I wanted to take it easy until the end of the match since I couldn't feel my arm. But, the instructor said, "keep going" and I thought, "crap!" So for the remaining time I did the best I could with my limited mobility since it did impede movement for quite a while.

That's a good one
I think I'll try that when I get into bogu and inevitably get hit.

And I'll be there to use it as blackmail against you. :)

Even when you get hit where you have bogu, like your forarms and hands, it hurts.

I get bruised where bogu is covering my body.

I got a nice big bruise the size of a pool ball after someone just missed my kote. I've gotten a few on my upper ribs and couple good smacks on my shoulders. I've got some powerful hitters in my dojo (they aren't even clubbing, they hit correctly but they hit like a friggin mack truck!) so even with a pad underneath my kote I still get nasty bruises everywhere. I get some on my knuckles, tops of my hands, etc. I remember getting hit so hard on top of my wrist that I lost feeling in it for a couple minutes. One good thing about the bruises is you get a lot of sympathy points from people:wink:.

the first time i wore bogu, they had the three new guys in bogu put it on, and line up. Then the entire club came through and sturck us(kind of a hey, this is what its like to get hit lol). only trick was, one girl missed. i learned the vital function of a Tare that day for a guy. Thank god for tare, cause illd have been on the floor from that
