What is a kenyu(Œ•—F)?

Like the subject says, what is a kenyu/kenyuu? I've come across this term several times, from the kanji it translates directly as "sword freind" :confused: but I dont really understand what it means.

In terms of kendo it just means people who enjoy doing kendo and their circle of friends. Many of the organizations in Japan are kenyukais which are basically local kendo groups or societies. Just another name for a club with people who have the same interests.
