Did anyone notice that the movement used in star wars are very familar to some kendo moves. Even the way they hold the sabers is like kendo

or am i the only one who thinks this ??

I shiver at the thought of comparing real swordmanship, Kendo, Iai, whatever, to movies. It is too frightening. Oh course, sword fights that begin and end with one hit wouldn't be too exciting to the general public.

Er, ahem.

The extras used in attack of the clones (clowns?) were kendoka from Sydney and Byron bay kendo clubs. Some of them were kendo veterans, many others were raw beginners who just happened to look a bit jedi-ish to the casting crew.
(there's a reason my avatar looks like it does :p )

As for the other movies, I believe the ppl involved did about six months of kendo training and Nick Gillard (stunt co-ordinator and fight corepgrapher for the films) is said to have developed the 'jedi style' from a number of sword arts, kendo included.

In fact, I found once a web page that did that comparation, and yes it seems that they took a lot of elements taken from Kendo, specialy at the combats of the first film ("A new hope")

I'm unable to find that damm page again.
