Just wondering, but is the Keikogi with the Musashi print only for children?
I found it quite nice, and I ordered it, thinking there was no age limit for this kind of print. Then I saw a few sites saying it's popular for children. I ordered it along with a black hakama, that I thought would go nicely with it. I'm not exactly a kid anymore, and they offered the keikogi in my size....
thoughts? *blushblush* :puzzled:

If the keikogi fits... wear it!

I think it would be great to train in whatever colour patterns you feel comfrotable in. If you wish to use it as a flashy way of Identifying your dojo, like some karate dojos do, then why not.
It should not make any difference as long as you train hard, and what you wear does not offend anyone, interfere with your training, or pose a health hazard.
But it comes back to tradition.. If you wish to practice Kendo traditionally then you conform.
I like the idea that was suggested to me once, of fighting like a deamon in a floral print hakama, and glow in the dark gi. :P
I train in black Hakama, and dark blue Gi.... (maybe I should practice what I preach)

The Musashi keikogi is actually popular for childrem not because of the pattern, but because of the low price, and and thin fabric. It's not made of sturdy crisscrossed cotton like the usual gi. It's even thinner if you compare it with the double layered keikogi.
Missed blows on your torso are bound to hurt a bit more than they would if you were wearing the standard stuff or the double-layer one. Also durability will be shorter than standard. It's the price you'll have to pay for being different than everyone else.
The black hakama is also not standard. Indigo blue, or white (in the case of white gi also) are the standards, but loads of people use black.

This seems like a good thread to ask this question. In our dojang, only shodan and above wear dark blue uniforms. All of us lowlifes wear white with black stipes down the hakama sides. Of course, the bogu bleeds blue dye down the shoulders. What is the best way to get rid of the blue. You can't bleach the uniform because it will mess up the black stripe.

common problem with anyone wearing white gi.
no solution here. the only way i can think of is taking a clothful of bleach and cleaning the spots where the indigo dye has set in, but that would be such a pain and unnecessary.
you might prefer a clean white uniform, but the blue dye setting in white uniforms is normal and if i were you, would not worry about it much. as you get more blue spots on your uniform it'll show your seniority. :D kinda like kodansha having faded blue uniforms.

"as you get more blue spots on your uniform it'll show your seniority. kinda like kodansha having faded blue uniforms."
You mean my white hair, bad knee and the liver spots on my hands aren't enough? I am a senior citizen, I'd like to avoid looking like one.

haha.
i meant seniority in the dojang. not necessarily your age. plus, lots of grey-haired "old" folks can kick butt. people often say that's the cool thing about kendo. no belts, no rank patches, just let your kendo do the talking.
some people actually like the indigo marks on white uniforms. i have heard numerous beginners who say thing like "how long does it take to get that cool x mark on your back from the do himo?"
