My name is Jin *yes, that's my real name*. I found this forum, hopefully I'll be here for long, yes? I'm new here.

I'm new to Kendo too, 19 this year, I have not yet been graded so I'm Kyu-less. We get to wear our Gi Hakama, been in Kendo for like...2-3 months now.

I've got some questions.

1. Is there a requirement to learn Nitoryu?

2. What is an eye guard? Do you have a picture of how it is worn? I've seen 'em at E-Bogu but I don't know how it really looks like.

3. I'm doing Men cut at the moment, but they said I'm too stiff, any advice?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums, try the search engine for some answers but you should ask your teacher first before doing so.

I tried, but they said Dan and Kyu were too short. And gave me many post on Nitoryu and videos of the one handed Kendoka. Sorry.

Yo. Well, if it isn't another Jin. I'll be damned. Anyway, for Nito-Ryu, I think a lot of people would recommend you doing kendo for a good while before attempting it. I don't know if anyone that learned Nitto-Ryu without learning chudan first. As for the eye guard, I don't really know about it. I've never seen them in person so I can't say anything. And for you men, relax your shoulders. I still have trouble with that, too. Good luck and happy training.

What makes you think I'm 'the' Jin?

What's with the name Jin? I like my name! Alright, I'll loosen my arms. Any other tips for beginners?

Another tip is to not take a 15 year old or anyone's advice for that matter without at least knowing that they have some experience with the art, which brings me again to the "ask your teacher first" concept.

1. Is there a requirement to learn Nitoryu? No.
2. What is an eye guard?A clear plastic shield some people wear inside their helmet to protect against bamboo splinters.
3. I'm doing Men cut at the moment, but they said I'm too stiff, any advice?Relax, and practice some more.
