Does anyone know where I may find a pair of onigote (used in Kohgen Itto Ryu)? My understanding is that they are very difficult to find. I thought if anyone would know it would be someone here. Here's a link with some pictures of a pair in use: http://www.wetlanders.org/~mike/onigote/
Thanks,

They look like someone amputated the Micheline-man and used his skin as armor.
Kind of disturbing.

Hmm, that's not a bad idea. ;)

Saw them in the catalogue of Tokyo's Shobudo and Osaka's Sekishindo sometime ago...
Since their sites were updated I can't find where exactly the Onigote are now... But if you managed to get there in person I guess you can buy a pair.
One pair is around 70000 Yen.

Thanks Mingshi!
Hingus, nice avatar, it looks familier somehow. :) But I think at 70000 yen we may need to make the onigote a dojo expense. Or use hockey gloves...heh.

I suppose I ought to let the Skosses know someone is using their photos.
And if someone's going to steal images, at least get the ryuha right.

Good thing the image police are here. Yeah, you caught me, I was going to sell those images to the Russian government for some good cash. Damn, my secret is out. You'd better rush out and tell Diane that someone is using her images to try and locate a pair of onigote for their dojo.
Seriously, I'm actually glad you're concerned, there is far too much stealing of images on the Internet. I think it should be a crime punishable by hefty fine or imprisonment. Those South Park images are the worst, they're everywhere on the Internet. However, I can assure you that welanders.org is actually my personal machine and I am using those images for personal use. (You may check Diane's copyright notice.)
Onigote were used in Itto Ryu, early Edo period. I beleive Ono, Kohgen, Hokushin, and Mizoguchi (perhaps others) still used them when they adopted Ito's ryu. When (or if) I find a pair of onigote I will be using them for Sakurai-ha Kohgen Itto Ryu. I've updated the page with a few more images.
Thanks for your concerns.

If you just wanted to add pictures of onigote to your post, why not just link directly to koryu.com?

Maybe I'm being a harrd-ass, but theft of intellectual property bugs me.

It's actually not a public website, it's invitation only. Try finding that page without actually going directly to that link. I'm pretty sure if you even hop up one directory you'll get a permission denied error, thus crawlers can't even find it. If you don't understand how web servers work I can understand why you thought it was public.
I don't think you're being a hard-ass, I just think you don't understand how the images are being used. I'm also quite familier with intellectual property laws, and what I've done certainly does not constitue theft.
If you'd like, and if you're curious, I can point out some intellectual property laws that apply to electronic media. In my job function I deal quite a bit with copyrights, trademarks, common law, and the like. However, it'd definately be a topic for private discussion. I'd be happy to put you on the right track if this is a topic of interest to you.
Cheers,
