I guess people are looking down bad dojo, not necessarily other martial art. I am Korean and I love Taekwondo and I think it is great sports. However, it is so commercialized and have seen many dojo with poor instructors who is trying to make money from their students. I don't think it is right. Same goes to other martial art.. Just my penny worth response...

I'm guessing that i'm one of the people he's talking about...ha ha. Sorry if i offended you in any way. If i was downgrading a marital art, it was because of a personal (and bad) experience i had with that martial art, or because some of the teachings of a certain dojo seemed false. I'm skeptical of ninjitsu today, but i love taekwondo. Just not all the 10 year old blackbelts in the classes i've been in.

I'm tired of people arguing like that. Everyone believes their opinion is worth as much as anyone. That doesn't make you special. That doesn't make you right.

Your opinion is worth as much as the experience, thought and wisdom that went into it. If there is little of all three, you can't complain about it not being taken seriously. We're not in some magic fancypants world where having an opinion means other people have to respect it. You don't even have to respect other people's opinions of your opinion, and that's fine. Groups will naturally form from who respects who, and if you find yourself with a bunch of people, none of which are higher than nidan or sandan in kendo, well, you get a better idea of how in line your opinion is with the rest of the world.

They are incredibly skilled and usually every technique is perfected.

I would argue that as soon as an establishment aims to make money the goal is no longer to furthur the developemen of an artform, its to save up enough to buy another boat, or put a kid through school. tell me what you think.

yeh i agree with you on that it becomes a Mcdojo i would of thought the art has gone, to be honest i think my taekwondo club is a Mcdojo but at the end of the day i have been training for 4 years now and im pleased with the instruction i have been given as it has helped my self confidence when facing skool etc. Like an example i took my Black Stripe Grading on Tuesday, and we got shouted at by our Grading Examiner because we didn't put feeling into out patterns/Poomse, and we didn't know certain korean, so it may be a McDojo the association getting lots of money but i have to give credit to black belts as this what it entails:

- Two trips to Bristol Headquarters to do a mock grading and a real grading
- every month do black belt training in Derby
- Loads of stuff for the gradings such as Sparring, Pad Work, Set Sparring, Patterns, Theory

so when you think about those 10 year old black belts really deserve to gain it.

Let's see. First of all, I can't say much for other martial arts because I haven't been heavily involved in any thing other than kendo. Well...I suppose kendo is the only martial art I have been remotely involved in and I love it with all my heart. What you have to understand is that some of the people here have done kendo for as long as you and I have been alive and then some. Some of them may have done other martial arts as well and can give a good report as to what they have to offer.

As to saying that some martial arts aren't real, yeah, I can agree with that. I mean...some of this BS I've been seeing on television..ugh..what is that? Anyway, I don't think what you're seeing is arrogance on their part since if they were being arrogant they'd be saying things like "Yes. Look at all the links in my profile to see all my menjo and awards." Saying something like Kendo is better than ________ should make you happy to be a part of an art that someone actually classifies as better than something else. I'm sure that somewhere out there there's a forum bashing kendoka. As for them...I have no problem, they can probably kick my ass, but whatever. Don't take things that are broadly based so personal. If someone had a post that said "Musashi, I am so much better than you. I have seen you and you are terrible." Then I think a thread like this could be okay...but yeah...otherwise I think it's wise to lay off.

Ninjitsu is a martial art, but real ninjitsu is not taught anywhere. It's in every ninja book. It is a secret martial art. If it wasn't secret, then it wouldn't be a secret martial art. You cannot be practicing ninjitsu out of a book and "passing" through halls of metholyptus.

Kendo is less commercialized than a lot of other martial arts. Therefore, kendoka, such as myself, have this arrogance that the martial art we study has not been erated by commercialism. So, we think we are better than others whose instruction comes from a school that focuses on maximizing profit via running it like a day care center without regard for technique and giving out higher ranking belts like Halloween candy.
