I got really bored and decided to see if the question "do you practice hiten mitsurigi" came up on any other forums. I found this...and i pray to the god i don't believe in that this is a bad joke. I know everyone here has heard the "question from hell" before...but this....:

I don't know whether to laugh or be disgusted.....hm....i think i'll see if i can find more like this...for laughs, if nothing else.

That's seriously disgusting. I've never seen my ryu butchered so mercilessly before. I shall not stand by while my Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu's name is soiled by amateurs.
Honestly. That's...kind of odd how someone says they practice it. Then again, I guess I could do if I could only get past that "ultrasonic" part.

Oh...J.C. spare me. Stop posting links to these things, man, you're makin' me lose faith in humanity. I like the guy who has 10 years devoted to iaido and dabbles in Yagyu Ryu and Niten-Ichi Ryu. However, I do appreciate the high praise he gave kendo. Ohhhh lordy.

Sorry for the double post but did anyone else find this part interesting? It got a chuckle out of me.
"I, personally, would like to think that the hiten mistsurugi that kenshin uses is, infact, possible and quit effective. You realy can't say its impossible before you try it (which i am doing with much succsess*call me crazy*). Its sort like when the people of the 1800s said man could not fly and then thr rite brothers proved them wrong. it just takes time for someone to do it. I hope i can conclusivly prove to the world (not yet though) that kenshin's hiten mitsurugi ryu is indeed possible. I am only 14 now and have been training vigoursly in the art since 8 years old. let me be the first to make clear that divine speed is not only possible, its actually easy to controll after a while. the bottom line is practice, are you willing to belive its possible? If you say yes it is, if no your rite too.
I havn't tought anyone hiten mitsurugi since my stupid pupil left me.-Kenshins Master"

You'd be surprised at how crazy Anime otaku can be. There are some out there who go as far as to know more about the character than the creators do (see Otaku no Video).
From what I see, the OP was serious but there were some that have a hint of sarcasm there. Whether or not the stuff is real is the question. The good news is that the last two posters set the record straight for these people although I doubt that they would listen to logic.

I'm not a member of any of these forums...nope, i'd shoot before having to sit in on these conversations, or i'd flame them to no end and get banned. Anyway...found more stuff.
http://shendragon.8k.com/nomusic.html whos up for a hiten mitsurugi lesson?
http://www.animeacademy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18393&page=2 a poll where 25% of the people practice hiten mitsurugi? Forget that...most of the people are anime freaks who base their styles off the other styles in RK.

I don't watch anime... so please tell me what is Hiten Mitsurigui? Is it like saying I practice X-Men style fighting? I want in on the joke. To me the question from hell has allways been, "Do we Play or Practice Kendo?"

hiten mitsurigui...i guess its supposed to be a sword style that uses "god-speed" to waste people. Saying you practice hiten mitsurigui in a kendo dojo would be like....walking into a MA dojo and saying you fight like they do in the matrix. I'm getting the impression that a lot of these people don't have much (or any) kendo experience (surprise surprise :/) I would also like to say these are a bunch of gullible kids and teenagers, but.....
I've read the RK manga. Fun to read, even more fun to draw, but not realistic in the least. I guess the joke is that these people think that hiten mitsurigui is actually possible to preform/learn. Oh..where i found these..mostly anime forums, i think (no surprise).

AHAHAHAHAHA! I think they may be the only peope I could beat that used Jodan...Anyway. Apparently, attacks are self-explanatory. But those who aren't the exact brightest can learn swordsmanship from reading a 17 year old's short explanation I mean...the author is the person who *gasp* founded Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu?! Good lord! I gotta get studyin!

Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu is the sword technique that is used by Kenshin Himura in "Rurouni Kenshin." With this style, he is able to jump real high and move his sword with blinding speed. It is totally unrealistic for someone to achieve that sort of thing.
By the way, I have seen a site floating somewhere around here that actually teaches you how to do Hiten Misturugi Ryu. If I happen to find it again, then I will link it here.
Edit: Just realized that Kendonewbie has already found the site.

change "thread" to topic. Anyways, the ppl in the first url link is what I was talking about in previous posts. People who seriously believe that a make believe art exists... Again, although it might be based on a real ryu, that still doesn't make it real. Still fiction folks...

Totally true, anime waza, and real ones are two wery seperate things... its important to realize that.
Real kicks animes ass, but animes ok, but in a passive, purely entertaining way. Rememeber it.. otakus!

Those kids frustrate the hell outta me. Mostly because I like watching the Rurouni Kenshin series and Movies, and all they do is make all anime fans seem like a bunch of nerdy, fantasy world, no sense of reality.
I like Kendo and anime among other things, but you don't see me in a bar getting a pool cue and threatening to kick ass! whilst performing okuri ashi foot work. Besides anime had NOTHING to do with me getting involved in Kendo.
P.S If you enjoy anime rent/download/buy "Trust and Betrayl" (one of the Kenshin full lenght films) you might find it quite entertaining.

I really can't believe that I'm writing this, but... Kenshin actually beats Yahiko in a duel, which pretty much destroys your statement.

No, he means Kenji not Kenshin (the son who goes off to become better than his father). He refuses to go see Kaoru and has a few issues that Yahiko helps him understand. (I won't spoil anymore of the story).

Yes, I know, but I am still right. You're talking to a fool that owns all 28 original Japanese volumes and has read each of them at least thrice. So many wasted hours... anyway, Kenshin and Yahiko do have a duel. I know what you're thinking of, and it's not that. But anyway - I won't spoil any more of the story!
