OK... the fourms are working. But when I go to the home it gets a 404 (http://www.kendo-world.com). What's going on???

I was getting the same error last night and apparently one of my posts disappeared. I've read that a lot of posts disappeared actually. My guess is that they had to reset the servers to a backup point. Might explain some missing posts and the temporary down time.

That explains why I can't order any book ! :ko:

Our resource usage on the server jumped considerably for some reason, which I'm trying to sort out, but we were moved to a different server, leading to some issues. Should be running more smoothly after I've had a look at what's going on over the weekend.

The avatars are missing (at least for me). All I see is grey text saying "lloromannic's avatar)

Maybe it's the enormous picture signature files that some people use?. In any case it's made the forum easier to read.

I've been seeing "server too busy - try again later" messages for a few days as well...

Also, the latest postings list that appears on the Kendo World main page hows a SQL server error.

i've noticed that sometimes there are TONS of guest on KWF...like, 45+ at a time. Usually, theres more guests than members on at any given time. Or, maybe it had to do with the insane amount of threads that people have been making in the last several weeks. Who knows. btw, i've also having trouble getting on...usually i get a message saying the server is too busy...but maybe just me. There are several other sites that have done the same sort of thing to me....

The front page error looks like:

Warning: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user: 'kendow2@localhost' (Using password: NO) in /home/kendow2/public_html/index.php on line 270
Error Nr.1045: Access denied for user: 'kendow2@localhost' (Using password: NO)

This should be mandatory: No pictures in your footer. A link to these pictures is sufficient. If someone has a good picture, he might as well put it into the multimedia thread.

But -- I am not the admin ;).

I got that today too. Plus, I got the other stuff people are also getting. I hope it gets back to normal soon.

I want the avatars back! But ban the use of images in the signature. Ahhh, no more 400 px high images....:devious:

Louis X

Maybe there should be an option to add a pic in the sig so it'd be easy to control the size of it.

Big pics are a shinai in the foot when reading.

Nah, just ban all forms of img-tags and we won't have any signature-pictures at all. Which would be the best thing to do in my opinion. They really don't add anything to the experience, more on the contrary...

I'm sure Hamish will get it all fixed up when he can.

Due to the upgrade to the latest version of the bulletin board software, some things have changed, notably the frontpage link to the latest threads. I should get some time to sort that out over the next couple of days.

Other things I changed were to get rid of all pictures in signatures, (that's bound to save some bandwidth!!) which has also made it easier to read, and I have put a limit on the load the forums can put on the server. I've had to do this to avoid a considerable increase in the costs for the site.

Will avatars get back? Otherwise I suggest removing the "NNs avatar" text.

It has become quite a struggle to actually access the site and I'm often told that the 'server is busy'. Is that related?

hamish
07-10-2005, 06:00 PM
Yes it is related. I'll be trying to adjust it while looking at the server loads, but at the moment it will turn people away when the load is too high.

In the meantime I'm also looking at other server options and also advertising options to pay for it!!

I have noticed on two other forum sites that use vBulletin 3.5 that suddenly the "server busy" messages are appearing when they were not seen before the upgrade - maybe this is part of the trouble you're having?

Hamish i have a suggestion. I may be willing to setup some serve space on a computer here for free(since you have a domain). It would be able to replace all of it, and i dont have godly bandwith, but i may be able to help some. Lemme see what i can do about getting my old server here and working
