On the subject of silly things: here's something rather grotesque. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3603700293&category=36280)
I can't decide, is it amusing, repulsive, or just pathetic?

(shudder) Yes to all. Does it seem like many people in the USA want to put their flag on EVERYTHING from condoms to kleenex... (including other countries)? Damn, that hakama is UGLY.

As a patriotic and loyal citizen of the United States of America, I'd like to apologize for the idiot who came up with the flag pattern hakama and offer to hold him down while everyone takes a few shots at him.
Then again, if I get a pair of these to wear for my 4-dan shinsa in November, my choshi might be so cool that I will be virtually guaranteed to pass, right? HAHAHA..................... no? :p

Kendomushi,
Is there some other meaning for mushi? I only know bug. No offence, but Kendo-bug really is unique...
Perhaps a more fitting punishment for the fellow would be covering his body in tattoos of randomly chosen world flags. I'd like to see someone with the old Soviet flag tattooed on their forehead.

Confound, mushi does indeed mean insect or bug. Using it as a term to describe someone indicates they are nuts about it, passionate about it, or a freak about it, or as we used to say in english "has the bug." So a kendomushi is someone who is passionate about his or her kendo and is trying to do it all the time, talk about it all the time, eat, sleep, and breathe it all the time. The nicknamed was earned by our club members in general back in its early days 11 years ago when there would be at least a few members at one of various dojo virtually every day and/or night of the week. Think of it being used much the way otaku is today (anime otaku = anime mushi, computer otaku = computer mushi, etc.). Hmm, now I know I've been in Japan too long.
And I like your tattoo idea, except I'm afraid that as the chap already has some sort of mental impairment he might some how come to like it.

OOOOhhhhhhhhhhh mmmmmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyy GGGGGGGGoooooDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!! Was that (hakama) a bad dream.
Someone hit me hard and wake me up. S*** I am awake!
How can anyone bastardise tradition and beauty. Mind you though, if I wore that at a bout, I may have an advantage over my opponent as he'd be too amused / fabbergasted / shocked / transfixed to attack me. On the other hand, it may piss them off too much and I'd be attacked even harder...

Kendomushi,
I've never heard that use of mushi before. it's been duly noted. at least I know you're not a giant cockroach or ant that does kendou. That was a very frightening idea.

If you knew Kendomushi, you would still think of a giant bug doing kendo....
(I am really going to pay for this one next practice......)

Confound, yes its a very old, dated use of the term, common in Taisho I believe.
Shelgeyr, that is a giant hairy bug and you know it!
(oh, and yes you will pay for it :D)
