Just read an article online:

The flu from asia should be here in the U.S within 1-2 months as they say. They're estimating about 1.9 Million Americans to die, if not treated before.

What are your guys thought on this?

Hurricanes, War in Iraq, Flu disasters... Wow, whats next.

...Please...just take the ban as seeing that we don't want you here, Issac.

As for the flu...I hope I'm not part of that 1.9 million. But as piggy said, it's going to come, regardless of what we do...so it's just a matter of preparation.

Naru yo ni naru sa.

"Superflu" ...lol. sorry, but that's just a stupid way to put it. And this is nothing new guys. The WHO have been monitoring bird flu strains for years now and taking as many precautions as possible to prevent a pandemic. After the Spanish, there was the Asian flu and Hong Kong flu. 36 years since the last one, but the afore mentioned three all occured within 60 years. I'd say we've been lucky to be in the dry spell of pandemic history. And the H5N1 (I believe that's the one the article is referring to) hasn't shown any indication that it can spread from person to person efficiently (a pre-req for a pandemic flu) and has only spread from bird to human twice (1997 and 2003; http://www.who.int/en/ ). But it's good to see prep for it, it'll really help if the time comes.

As for what's next....Cascadia subduction zone slip maybe?
If it's not one thing it's another right? :smoker:

Hrm, a global epidemic is not something that an individual can prepare for. Rather it is more of a national or regional issue that each country's health organization needs to prepare for.

Anyhow, I always have my shinai.

Most likely, as in the past, the people at highest risk of dieing from the avian flu are senior citizens and infants, not to mention people with HIV. Since I fall into none of those categories, I have a pretty good chance of surviving. Stock up on orange juice and vitamins.

Get your flu shot, take your vitamins, take precautions (hand washing and whatnot), live a healthy life (kendo!), wait it out.

I've not heard the 1.9 mil figure before, but don't those numbers always seem to represent the worst case?
