I dont know about all of the U.S. but in the S. Califonia Federation alone we have 51 members. I would say maybe about 30 of them are active though. So I guess we are considerably large. All of Belgium is only around 30? Wow. Of the 30 people how many are sensei? Do you know?

4 senseis in Belgium

10.000.000 persons in Belgium and 30 Naginata practisers
250.000.000 in US there should be 750 Naginata practisers :D

In the year-end report for 2002, the USNF had 130 adults and 21 minors.

The number of instructors as indicated by the Kyu examiners list is 14. And there are 19 recognized Dojo within four regional federations.

The offical USNF list of pactitioners actually is time-stamped at the beginning of the new Fiscal Year, 1 April 2003. We are waiting for that list to be sent out.

xvikingx indicates 51 members of SCNF up from 40 adults and 3 minors at the end of the year. ECNF will have 31 adults and 1 minor, up from the year-end number of 27 adults.

I will note in passing that the Hawaii Naginata Federation has withdrawn from the USNF - HNF had contributed 13 adults and 3 minors to the 2002 totals. [FYI: The HNF indicated that it wished to concentrate on Koryu exclusively.]

So the offical numbers for the USNF will change a bit.

Wow 151 members... Thats amazing. Why is it that HNF has decided to withdraw? I remember hearing something a while ago about there being tension between schools... Am I mistaken?

Actually, the potential for growth is even more amazing.

Why is it that HNF has decided to withdraw? I remember hearing something a while ago about there being tension between schools... Am I mistaken?

As I recall, the HNF requested independence from the USNF several years ago, analogous to the HKF being independent of the AUSKF. The request was denied as there was no historical precedent.

FYI, the USNF annual seminar and biennial championship tournament were held in Hawaii in 2000 - a number of people from the continental US attended. One would think that was an indication of solidarity with the rest of the USNF.

Why this has happened now is still an open question. Offical correspondence from the HNF has stated that the HNF wishes to concentrate on Koryu exclusively. I will note in passing the the Koryu practiced by the HNF is Jikishinkage Ryu, while on the continent here we practice Tendo Ryu. These practices are conducted independently from the USNF and Atarashii Naginata.

Personally, I hope that this is not a ploy by the HNF to achieve organizational independence by first withdrawing from the USNF, and then petitioning the INF for membership as an independent organization, which is purely personal speculation on my own part.

HTH.

That is pretty ineteresting. Is it passable to have two seperate Federations with in one country. I was reading something on an earlier post about the French federation having the same kind of trouble....
Potential growth?... how much potential are we talking about? Lots of questions, sorry.
