That sounds good. BTW, I would like to know if I am subscribed. I asked that via mail, too, but haven't received an answer, yet. With that mail I told you my new adress since I have moved to another city a month ago. Could you please check it?

80 pages yet? Soon you can call it "Kendo World Quarterly Book". I eagerly await the articles about nito, since one of my friends uses it.
Thanks in advance,

I sent one to editor@kendo-world.com and one to subscribe@kendo-world.com. The first contained a question concerning the possibility to gain the permission to translate some articles and the second contained my question about the subscription and my new address. But I will send them again.

We always get problems around Christmas, and it seems this year is no exception. Always a problem when most of the country sends Christmas cards gifts etc. to relatives who've 'fled' the country, and I think the postal system gets a bit overloaded. I'll follow up and double-check subscribers are all accounted for, and we have no address issues, after that, its over to the postal system!

Just a small question. I am a subscriber since December 23rd, so I guess my first issue will be the one released in January and not the one released in December?
hamish
10th January 2006, 11:35 AM
Your first one will be 3.2, which should have been released in December, but due to the mailhouse stuff up, was sent out last week. We are still trying to get a reason from them as to why they didn't send it out! Expect it to take around 4 weeks to get to you.

Sorry guys. I have just moved to Tokyo for a new job and have been offline for the last week. Anyway, in regards to the missing magazines, this is indeed a concern. If you have been sending mails to editor@kendo-world.com you would get a reply from myself or Hamish as soon as we see it. If you have not received a reply, it means that your mail hasn't arrived, or our reply is being blocked fro some reason.
We have been having problems with magazines and books not arriving, and it is frustrating the hell out of us too! We have taken 2 measures to alleviate the situation.
1. We have moved all of our stock from NZ to Singapore as we find the Singapore dispatch compnay to be more reliable. Having said that, there is nothing we can do about the repsective postal systems in each country.
2. We are making an all new HP with a new ordering setup. We will be using registered post from now on as this way we will be able to keep track of every item that is sent. It will be a little more expensive, but much more reliable. That will be implemented in the coming weeks.
As for the missing magazines, I have alerted Hamish to this page and the people on it. He will do another check, and resend the mags.
Thank you for your patience!

I have some experience in academic publishing, but I am sure you guys have already been through the ringer with every option. Cheers!
Alex
7th April 2006, 03:06 PM
Thanks Eric,
yeah we have certainly gone through the grinder. Our system is good in theory, but for some reason, a lot of our stuff seems to go missing in the post. We can make sure that mags and books are actually sent, but there is no way to know when they will arrive. Also, there seem to be certain addresses that no matter how many times a mag is sent, it just refuses to arrive! Our record is sending a mag 4 times (to an address in Hawaii) and it still didn't get there. In the end, we just took it on the chin and FedEx'd it. Ended up costing us a fortune...
Apart for that, as you may have guessed, we were having a few problems with out distributor (mail house) in NZ. They used to be very good, but a couple of their excellent staff members left, and their reliability went out the window. That's what makes it so frustrating for us all. Anyway, as soon as our new system with registered post is set into motion, this problem should be alleviated.
Hamish is checking up on your mag. It was resent by Airmail and should be there by now! We will get it to you by hook or by crook.

Thanks everyone at Kendo World. I am aware of some of these problems working in an English Department and attempting to get our internationally circulated Journal of Narrative Technique out. It is a pain in the... Anyway, thanks again for the help. If you are in need of a change or want to investigate I have heard of and worked well with Blackwell Publishing for academic journals. They do a bunch and handle subscriptions as well. (I do not work for them I promise). Anyway, have a good day. Cheers!

For Eric and Tantadi, and others whose magazines haven't arrived yet, my apologies for the holdups. As Alex mentions above we have had some problems with the postal service, but also with our mailhouse, which is unacceptable, and we are in the final throes of moving all our magazines to our Singapore distributors. I have been looking into the missing issues, and am sending replacements out as soon as I've ascertained that payments went through OK.
I'm sorry for the problems that we've had, but I feel confident that the change of mailhouse and also our new on-line ordering system that we are getting built from the ground up by a professional coder will get rid of the causes of most of our issues.
Thhankyou again for your patience, and your support of Kendo World.

It is very frustrating to have people say that we never reply to mails when we are not receiving them. And it must be just as frustrating for people who send us mails who are not getting replies! At least we now know there is a technical glitch somewhere.

Was about to order also hamish and there was indeed no padlock or certificate as huddo suggests......
the link ye have from the magazine section is this
http://www.kendo-world.com/magazine/subscriptions/subscription_e.htm
Notice this is not a secure http site (address is http not https)
Lads use the same hyperlink as above just add an "s" to the http part as follows
https://www.kendo-world.com/magazine/subscriptions/subscription_e.htm and that is now secure!
I'd also update the site hamish as this is a pretty big flaw for people buying online.

I'm updating the forms. They are forwarding anything on to us, so no orders will be misplaced even if they go to the old address.
Hamish
I am still curious as to the status of my order which was placed several months ago...is this a lost cause?

Hi, I subscribed to the mag I think about a month back, ordered some back copies about 2 weeks back and just today ordered the Kata book. Haven't received anything and am concern given the thread discussion. Can you advise which is likely to have been processed and not. Please advise e-mail to send you details. Thanks.

Hamish will check but he is in Australia for work at the moment. Give it a couple more weeks before you start worrying.

To all subscribers!!!
The long awaited 3.2 edition of Kendo World was sent to subscribers today
(December 1 2005).
You should receive it before Xmas. If you haven't received it by January, please contact us at editor@kendo-world.com
BTW we plan to publish 3.3 in January. We already have 80 pages completed, so it isn't far away.
Cheers for your patience.
Alex and Hamish
Am I subscribed? I received an order confirmation and nothing else after that and I have been asking this same question for about 4 months.

Hey Gessho,
That would make an interesting poll question :gasmask:
I'm starting to wonder if the answer is amazon.com, seems you can order back issues via them. It probably couldn't take any longer........................
Cheers

Hamish is in Australia at the moment for work. He is the only one who can access the database so I cannot answer you. Gessho, I was told by Hamish that your order had been resent 3 times. I am sorry it hasn't arrived, but it will get there.
Trying to get kendo information out through KW is nothing but constant stress. All we hear are complaints, and recently sarcasm. Personally, I would rather be spending more time with my family. Time to pull the plug.

I use sarcasm to mask my pain. However, I certainly do appreciate your diligent efforts (no sarcasm). The inbox for Hamish is full and e-mails are bouncing back hence the post online. In my case, I have made an order twice (once 4 months ago and then again the other day) so I hope we can settle the billing issues.

Time to pull the plug.
what if you get rid of the forums and just produce the occasional book and mag... maybe without subscription? this way could run things a bit more relaxed, and you wouldnt get all these subscription problems and subsequent complaints.
im sure by now you can guess the average readership? just print out a set number of magazine copies and when they run out, well, they run out. raise the price and print and distribute them from japan. [setting up an online shop that utilises paypal should be easy]
you could always release the magazines as online-books... this would cut the price and remove the need for distribution completely.
if i had your level of japanese and a 6th dan i would probably do it myself.
anyway, just my thoughts. im sure youve thought this through more than me. youve started something of that was very cool here...(i remember the dark-ages of kendo missinformation and rumour)... it would be a shame to just end it.
personally, im suprised you managed in this manner for so long!!!!

of course not, but it would help in trying to track down missing issues at the moment. Hamish is in Australia missing presumed fed, and I cannot do anything until he looks at his mails.

Alex,
Firstly, my reply was not warranted and I apologise for any offence it may have caused..
If the issues are logistics related IE the distribution of the magazines once printed, I'd be happy to take a look at the distribution/logistics processes behind how it's done.
FYI I've been designing supply chain solutions for a number of years and would be happy to see if I could offer any thoughts on how to straighten this situation out.............
If your interested, drop me a private message with an email address.
Cheers

No offence taken at all. I am equally frustrated with why such a simple thing as a magazine delivery can go so horrendously wrong. We were supposed to have a brand new fail-safe system up and running 2 months ago. The good thing about the system is that even a technology anti-christ like me will be able to get into the databases and confirm all orders (something which only Hamish can do at the moment.) All I can ask for is a little more patience.
:puzzled:

I finally got hold of the elusive Mr. H last night. He knows about his mail box now so it should have been cleaned out. Gessho, your order will now be FEDEXed. As for e-publishing, we are looking at the possibility of doing that for back issues...First things first though.
