Its a junior high school according to the web page. And they are training hard to win in an upcoming summer tournament. I've never seen a school require students to dress like that, but I think it is their basic school sports uniform and the schools often require it to be worn at all sports practices. And yes it would give a good view of the footwork, but............... nah, I just couldn't do kendo dressed like a smurf (I look silly enough at times without that kind of help) lol

Seriously, when I saw this I immediately thought of wode... as little children my mother used to paint us with that blue stuff and let us terrorize the neighborhood. Any Welshmen here? Wode is cool, but I don't think I'd like to practice Kendo wearing what I saw in that link... especially if there's a camera around! As someone else said, I need NO help in looking awkward doing Kendo! Still a beginner.

Look closely at the people in the back, they're wearing shorts and t-shirts. I've had a few bear skin snaps and they HURT!

Kendomushi's right that is actually their P.E uniform, if you go back the link there's a whole list of the school's club activities, their brass band club even wears that though I'm not sure why. now the weird thing is why do they wear that in club activities? most other schools wears hakama and gi for kendo club practice, unless the photo was taken during a P.E session.
