Alan03 (from same dojo) has one... looks ni~ce... are you talking about the titanium 2mm one with gi/ 8000 hakama for 820?
I was able to compare a 4mm men from another shop (bogubag?) and 2mm from e-bogu... frankly for a beginner I couldnt care less, 4mm looked pretty good too it had pretty sturdy/thick padding on the top of the men and the fabric felt pretty good... but if you can afford 2mm, i'm not stopping you :D
nice deal btw

No, I was talking about this one http://www.e-bogu.com/Pre_made_High_Quality_2_mm_Machined_Stitch_Kendo_B _p/sam-ken-bog-hq2mmset--.htm . It says its $670USD(?) and the 3mm http://www.e-bogu.com/Pre_Made_Top_Quality_3_mm_Machine_Stitched_Kendo_B _p/sam-ken-bog-tqpret3mmset--.htm is priced at $745? I'm trying to stay on a budget of $700USD.

Duty? No, sorry, I'm just getting into bogu now so all of this is new to me. They have begginers practice basics for about a year before they let them were bogu at my club. I practice at the JCCC. Carlos.

You may want to check out www.bogu4beginners.ca (http://www.bogu4beginners.ca) . Good bogu, great prices. I've had the 2.5mm for 8 months, and love it.

Bear in mind the 2mm you're describing is the "High Quality" whereas the 3mm is the "Top Quality" - which describes the cloth used, the stitching width (2mm vs 3mm) which for most of us doesn't really matter. In fact, the wider the stitching spacing, the more the padding will stand up a bit. Not for long, since repeated strikes will eventually beat it down, but with the smaller spacing, the padding can't move around as much, so it retains its shape for a longer period.
I have the Top Quality 2mm set, which has the titanium alloy mengane. I like it very much, it's comfortable without being too heavy on me, and for an old guy, that's important.
Go with what you feel you can afford and what you want. Don't let people talk you out of what you want - they're not the ones who will have to wear it and they're not the ones paying for it, either. Bogu is a matter of choice, whether economic or otherwise, just like if you were to buy a car (Ford, Chevy, Honda, Mitsubishi, Nissan?).

For a beginner you'll be happier with either but I personally feel the 2 mm stitching is more about marketing than function. The 3 mm set is made with higher quality materials as Joe has said, so if you have the bucks go for it. They're not priced arbitrarily.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I think I'll go for the 3mm. If I take advantage of the holiday specials and the free shipping it should be right around my budget. Just for future reference what sort of things should I look for in a good quality bogu? Ive seen deferiences in the men (duralumin/titanium), stiching, material, etc. But which is better/worse (ex. what material is better?)? Thanks again everyone. Carlos
