Who in this forum went to University of Washington's taikai yesterday besides me? This is the 6th taikai I went to, but I still get nervous. blah!

Yup. Actually, as a UW Kendo Club member, I helped make brackets, helped ran scoring tables, timed, taped down the courts, and competed. I was way too nervous for no good reason, something I find varies from taikai to taikai.

By the way, did it seem to anyone else that there were an abnormal number of encho and hantei?

What? you didn't participate? you should've because you could of whooped me and won first place for the 0-4 kyu division. That's what happened to me. I fought some old guy from Obukan, and he took me out with two kotes. I didn't know if I was nervous or he was from Obukan, and he only took kendo for a year  compared to my almost 2 years :( . Oh well, there's always next year. Hmmm an unusual number of hanteis or enchos, huh? I don't recall seeing any abnormal ones. Did you?

hey pikachu (or should i just call you dorkus?) well anyways yeah i like pikachu too but that's not the point. do you know if anyone can participate in this tournament? i am getting REALLY bored of the tournaments in SCKF. it's the same people every time. i would like to be in a tournament where i hardly know anybody. that would be alot more fun.

Hey Moomoo, Call me whatever you like =P. Well, I don't think there's any restrictions because there were participants from Canada that competed in this Taikai, so I guess it's totally up to you if you want to come up or not. It'll be fun to see you compete again. The last time I saw you was at Steveston. Come up to the PNKF taikai that's held on the 8th of November. It's pretty big ,you'll see a lot of fresh new faces.

Yeah, anyone can participate. What dojo are you from? I'll try to make a note of sending an invititation down your way next year when we have the taikai again.

About the encho and such, I was talking with one of the sensei and he said that he gave out three hantei during the taikai and couldn't remember doing more than one at any other. He also said he was seeing a more people than normal at all levels not having very good zanshin after the cuts, which is why he didn't give as many points.

3 hanteis, huh? That's normal. I thought you meant like over 20 or something. Now, that would've been abnormal:p . Hey Moocow and Jamie, if you guys don't have enough people for teams. One of you guys can take my place :D .

I actually meant that he personally was part of three hantei, which he considered an unusual amount. As for the total number, I couldn't tell you. I personally saw four or so, but was too busy to pay attention to both courts. Hehe, twenty would have kept us there for ages. That's an extra fourty minutes in encho right there. :)

No problem, Jamie. I'll try to put that down somewhere where it'll get seen next year.

okay, that was pretty unusual to be a part of that many hanteis. haha yeah, I was trying to do the same thing as you. it was hard to watch both courts when two good matches were going on at the same time. Did you noticed that court A moved a lot faster than court B? And alot of people in the 1-3 dan division had a difficult time with the nito-ryu guy from Bellevue.

who are some of the buff guys who go to this tournament? and a guy who does nito ryu? i wanna see that. i never see anyone do nito at a tournament. well i saw one at steveston but only for a little bit cause i was stuck in the stupid dungeon court D which was separated from all the other courts.
