http://www.eguchi.net/M7_tsuki.jpgThat chin "pad" really isn't a pad at all. It's more of a patch to cover a worn chin pad. It's too thin to provide anything in the way of protection or fit adjustment.

Knew a guy once that got a concusion from his Sensei misusing a carbon shinai repeatedly. He's worn a men pad since.

When someone Tsuki's me the pressure of it presses against my throat and i feel choked. Just need something soft/cushioned against that inside part of the men and padding on the top for heavy hitters.

Some people put a men towel where their chin goes. However though, a lot of times its to make the men fit better for whatever reason. Also I"ve only seen girls do this, maybe most bogu is just made for men with bigger heads. Only my experience with that though.

Get your seniors to evaluate how you're holding your head. Many people let their head hang forward, which will allow the tsuki-dare to get pushed inward. If your posture is correct, the tsuki-dare should be braced by your breastbone and so the force is received not just through your neck.

I dont think an extra pad for anti tsuki purpose would work. An extra pad takes up extra space which would result in an even more choaky feeling.
Try keeping your neck/head straight and your chin slightly down towards your chest so the ago protector thinggy rests on your upper chest. This way it takes a bit of the pressure off.

PS: plz dont attack me for my noobness but the 1 time I wore bogu it worked for me..........Just trying to actually help here......

I notice that when i do get tsuki'ed the chin cup from the men pushes against my throat and chokes me. Why could that be?

Maybe your men is too loose. Tie it really, really tight and after a while when it molds to your head it won't feel uncomfortable.

ditto, your men is too loose. either it's too big on you, or it's not tied on tight enough. what you might need is not chip pad, but men pad for the top of the head. that will bring up the chin cup to meet your chin instead of hanging low enough to hit your throat when someone tsuki you.

My men fits nice, but the same happens to me. Wouldn't exactly call it choking, but there is quite some pressure under the chin from tsuki. IMO it can be that the contruction of the mengane "ring" and the men front flap (ago) isn't stiff enough..(?) so that the lower end of the chin ring bends in/upwards..

Look for one of the blue closed-cell foam pads that people use under their sleeping bags. Just cut it to fit. You'll still have enough to supply the whole dojo; sell them to you 'mates at $1 (or 1 GBP, or 1 Euro, or whatever currency you want) and you'll probably recover the entire cost.

Hey future Cappy you might want to check here (http://www.bogubag.com/Bogu/Pads/pads.html) for a menpad.....

You can also use one of those foam/neoprene mouse pads and cut it to size.

Hi S....

Good to see you around... I thought you might have left us for the job in Carolina...!

Ref your prob... sounds as if you might be tying your Men slightly too high or the Men might be a bit too big for you.

Try tying it a bit lower so that your chin doesn't go quite so far into the Mengane area... this might be helped by a pad (which you could use to effectively reduce the size of the opening...

All the best...

Hi Crabbi, no no not moved to the Carolinas. Dont plan on it either. My boyfriend (Michael) is planning to move to Scotland when he graduates from flight school.

He reckons its a better life in Scotland than in the states, regarding social life, career etc.

I've just been busy with work, got promoted last week. YAY!

I might try one of those mouse pads are they cheap to buy?

If you want to try your homemade creativity, I'd say go for the air-bubbly wrapping stuff with some doublesided tape or something like that. The bubble wrapping is alot cheaper, thinner and lighter than a mousepad.....

And it gives a nice satisfying crackle when your opponent strikes men. :silly:

And I really don't mean to attack for your noobness, instead of telling us not to attack you... maybe you should just leave these kind of things alone? You just only wore bogu once as you said. Commander is close to shodan(?), even I probably got Tsuki-ed more than you. Please leave this to Neil sensei and other high ranking kenshi to answer these kinds of stuff. Good advice is great, but advice based on one time experience can sometimes does more harm than help...

I use a mouse pad and some polyester stuff for inside the top of my Men too. All sew into a small bag and use double side tape to attach it on. It works like a charm.

I can imagine talking to ATC at Charlotte, the busiest airport in the world with a thick Scottish accent.

Is there much difference in a SC accent to a MS accent?
