My dear friend,
Two new gentlemen and a new lady on your team, comparing to the last championship in USA! So, what about the Delegation's leader, manager and coach?
French team is strong and has good kendo!
Gambatte kudasai!

Hmmm.... just curious. At what age do these French national players start kendo? Most of them are below the age of 30 and a lot of them have yondans or godans. Given the French names, I assume they are not the kids of Japanese senseis, so they are not likely brought to the dojo at a young age by their parents.
Is kendo that popular in France that many French kids start kendo before age 10 and stick with it?

Thursdays 7:30pm to 9:00pm both at the Kelvin Hall Sports Centre

Hi Slidercrank, yes France has a really strong kendo federation, whit something between 3000 and 6000 members. They win almost all the European championsips since ever, just leaving the 2nd and 3rd positions to the weaker countries (like Spain, UK, Italy, RFA, etc). The only other country in Europe that cames close to them is Hungary, they did great at the last Europeans.
And they've a lot of influence on the rest of the European federations. As an exemple we have a French sensei in our club, and some of the seminars held across Spain are given by french people.
Mr Labru and Mr Raick are well known and higly respect here.

Should also mention that the French Kendo Federation is tied to the national judo federation (i.e. Olympic sport with funding $$$), so they actually have a budget.
Does anyone know the name of the guy (on the French team obviously) who beat S.Asaoka (Team Canada, made the ¼ finals) in teams at the last worlds? I'd really like to see his kendo.

I didnt find the answer for how beat S.Asaoka during the last world champ...
And right in France we are very lucky to be affiliate to a federation it means money for the club, i would like to add that we can use gymnasium at the university or hall to pratice for free...We received every year an expert from ZNKR...
I don t know why JP Labru is not directly in team..! New generation ?
I enjoy to come on Glasgow last sunday morning , it was great !
Cheers

The guy who beat S.Asaoka was A.Soulas apparently (got this from a second hand source though).

When I started kendo (in france), 15 years ago there were only a very few dojos with a youth section. I can only remember St. Etienne and Kenyu (Paris). Now I suppose there are more clubs with youth sections.
Although I seem to remember the wc in 94, the team was mostly late 20 early 30 people.
Anyway, look at the japanese team they're going to face. No matter how young and graded they are it's going to be real tough for them...

We are lucky in France to have a federation = money and that s why we ve got lots of young people can start Kendo... easily..
See yu !

So so.
If any team other than Japan wins the team or individual, pigs would fly and talk.

As for France winning the WKC.... it has as much of a chance as say the US or Canada of winning the REAL World Cup (the football kind), that is to say none whatsoever.
