Hi, I have a question about Kote lenght. I have long forearms and keep getting hit on the upper part on my right forearm that is not covered by my kote.Any advice? Is it possible to get "longer" kote?

The problem is not your kote, but that your opponents and training partners are not hitting in the right target area. I have never seen "longer" kote, but I could be wrong. I have no real advice, but to either make your partners get better (which is beyond your control) or don't let yourself get hit in the kote area. Change your tactics, fix your kamae, or whatever cause I don't know what the real problem is if it is something you are doing, but find ways to make your kote less enticing to hit in jigeiko. If they are hitting you in basic drills and missing the kote, it is something they need to fix.

Get a custom made one with a 20 inch cuff.

most of the time, my problem is new guys hitting me on back of the hand instead of the forearm. i always show them where the target is and tell them to hit the right target.

I would think that extending the kote length would hinder progress because people might be less inclined to hit the right spot. If it's not protected and you get hit there, you can at least show them in gestures and words that he/she hit the wrong spot.

I would have thought longer kote would be a bad idea, particularly if undertaking Shia, as the target is larger, making it easier to score :hurt:

if it's bothering you, get a forearm protector and slide it further up your forearm.
On a side note, think about it this way, too...
Why would you want to make the scoring area of the kote BIGGER for your opponent?

Kanto and Kansai kote actually have different default length...so you could ask around.

Which one is longer? My kote come from Kyoto and they seem larger than others. I also recall you saying there is a difference between Kanto and Kansai Doh. Are there also variations in the Men (other than the way of tying it) and Tare?
