Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knew of a Jodo dojo (hehe, the just sounds funny  ) in the Manchester area, preferably the south. I have only ever seen Jodo at seminars and Aiki-jo (which is obivously not the same), and I would like to give it a go. I've looked on the BKA website and there only appears to be Kendo and Iai dojos in my area.

Thanks in advance.

Can you talk to Gareth Mason? He and Leng are very good at jodo I think. Where in Manchester do you live?

Hi,

Yep as far as I know.... Halifax is the closest BKA Jodo Dojo.....

I'm guessing travelling wouldn't be much of an option either as practice doesn't start till 9:00pm and finishes at 11:00pm. I know from travelling to KNMS for Kendo (Which incedentaly is the same night Thursday... Don't know if you do Kendo) you wouldn't get back home till past 12:00.

But of course if you did want to come along, I'm sure you would be more than welcome. Contact details for Keith Rose are on the DSKYK website.

Keith has been doing Iai/Jodo & Kendo for a while so he may even be able to point in the direction of someone closer to you ??.... just a thought.

Cheers

Thanks for the info, I don't do kendo, but I do do (dodo hehe...) Iai. I've met Keith a couple of times at seminars and through my sensei. I didn't think that there would be a closer one, but I sumised that this would be the place to ask :).

Oh btw, Gary your Fotopic Gallery Service is dormant cos u've not logged into it for over six months.

Your welcome.... It's a shame you can't find a Jodo dojo.... because it does seem to be the poor cousin of the three arts.

But has a lot to offer... I haven't practiced for for a while... but have just come back to practice again in the last month and forgot how hard/fun it is.

Cheers for letting me know about the fotopic gallery.... I got a new digi camera at the time and went crazy taking pics but the novelty has worn off now :-)

Bob,

I know from what you have already said that you would prefer to stay fairly local to learn Jodo.

But as someone who is not from Keith Rose's dojo I feel I can comment on his abilities with the Jo without bias.

Keith's jodo is simply superb and far exceeds his current grading in it - I will note that at a seminar only three years ago several more senior Sensei (by grade not experience) asked him for advice on particular points.

He has a very easy-going temperament and his Jodo is simply mind blowing - calm, subtle, devastating.

I would encourage you to visit him without any reservation whastoever - and halifax aint that far from Manchester. Not to train with such a high quality teacher.

Lee

Oh and SD - I know Keith is your teacher so don't you dare tell him I said all this.

Maybe if more people are interested we could hire some kind of mini bus to head up there twice a month or so :D.

Lee,

I totally agree, but like you say... I biased. The other teacher we have at Halifax for Jodo.. is Steve Boyes. Who's jodo is also excellent but in a different way to Keith's. His jodo is very strong, and boy do you know when you have been tsuki'ed :-D

Don't worry I won't tell Keith what you said............................................ now where's keith's email address again :-D

Keith rocks. I tried Jodo for a little bit but stopped while I do my sign language course and I ended up trying kendo. I've been taught Jodo by both Keith and Steve, and they are both amazing teachers. It's even better to watch them practise together... it's completely fabulous! I had to force myself to close my mouth and pay attention to what I was doing when they were practising.

It is a long drive from Manchester, and I must admit it would put me off. But as far as i;m aware it is the nearest one to you. And you're not going to get much better quality then Keith and Steve as Senseis.

Hope you try it. I'd be interested and somewhat curious as to what you think of it!

Sat- Hm, why would you not want him to know??? But would I tell if you didn't want me to? Never! :) Happy birthday to me...

Hey you leave me and Steph out of your 'sworded' fantasies.

hey I like the way you managed to phrase a sentence which placed you and SD in a together kind of way.:D

Although I must admit (although this is killing me) that your pun is really good.
