Was looking at imdb.com and stumbled across this one :
http://www.imdb.com/Title?0353079

Anyone know anything about it?..has it been shown in Japan yet?.
This could be either very bad or *extremly* good.

Yes its on every week. I took part in NHK broadcasts (mostly live) to help promote it. The last one was last February a week before it aired on TV. NHK asked the Hyoho Niten Ichiryu to demostrations and also interviewed actors in the series. It was nice though with expenses paid by NHK. Managed to grab a few freebies with the Logo they are using.

It was mostly made around Okayama Ken and they used local people dressed up as townsfolk.

The actor is the son of a famous Kabuki player. They also chose him because of his big eyes!

Needless to say they did not ask for advice on the swordplay! It was all done by Hayashi Kunishiro Sensei of Wakakoma Pro. They do most of the Tateshi work (fight arrangers as in Budo) for NHK and a lot of movies.

The producer and Yoshikawa Eimei (Eiji's son) have talked of the possibilty of a follow up series depicting Musashi's life after Kokura. They did say to Imai Soke that they would ask his advice if they did it.

I watched two episodes only. The longsword work alone had me in stitches. An aluminium 2.4 in a 3.0 saya? Hayashi Sensei is within his own right an excellent teacher. But he can't turn actors into proficient swordsmen in a few hours. You get what you see! Like the book its a melodrama with a bit of history thrown in. What was funny was that at the interviews people asked about the possible development of Musashi's love life should they continue a series.

What? It aired a week into January or just around after New Year's. That's when I saw the first episode this year.
It's just typical Japanese samurai taiga melodrama. Don't watch it with a serious eye, it's not on the same level Kurosawa Akira.

Hyaku, how did your high school champs go? Did Ryukoku do well? We just had ours in Ninohe. I know Ryukoku won in Ninohe in '99 but I didn't see ya. I was working outside though. That was some hot weather we had! Hope to see you Nagasaki this year :).

Is there anyway to get a copy of the whole series? I've seen some but not all of the episodes. It's similar to hollywood. Based on true story, but some "creative writing". :cross_eye

Perhaps next year, when the whole series is over in December. Usually NHK does that.

Aru-ma,
Yes I've seen them sold in TV magazines as edited compilations. Also in the rental video stores here you can rent NHK Taiga Dramas from way back. Do your research on the web or go directly to the NHK website. Perhaps you can start there.

Anyway here's a list of all the Taiga Dramas NHK has produced.

Unfortunately I haven't found a link on the NHK site that sells the Taiga Drama complilations.

What am I doing! I gotta go back to work!!!

Good luck!

PS Toshie and Matsu is number 41 just under Musashi.

Ooops getting my months wrong. Yes it was January. Quite funny actualy. Its the first time ever had to unpack a bag from traveling to repack it to travel again the next day.

I think that was maybe a one off for Ryokoku although we are usually there most years. Joshi team are doing quite well now.
