Hello Im new to this forum. My name is Kaito. I am interested in knowing where those of you who live in Japan are. Do you all live in Tokyo or are some of you living out west? I live in the countryside of Kanaya located in Shizuoka prefecture.

Shizuoka is a fairly large city however the area I live is all green tea farms with very few people. In fact there are only 14 homes in my village. My interest was finding Americans or English speaking people who might be training in areas west of the Kanto Plain.

I live in Omaha, Nebraska, USA and Shizuoka is our sister city. The Mayor and several important people from your area came to our city last summer and donated a Japanese Gate. It was a really cool ceremony including taiko drums. I know this didn't answer your question at all, but it's nice to meet you.

My wife's family came from Shizuoka. Her grandfather was a physician who served the many Japanese plantation workers on Maui.

Don Don, That's beautiful country that way. I've been to Hiroshima only once but I enjoyed it very much. I am planning to make a trip to Kyushu soon. I want to visit a few historical sites connected with Miyamoto Musashi. Do you work there in Hiroshima or study martial arts only? It's nice to meet you!

I'm in Mishima. I don't get to Shizuoka city much, but I do like that area. Kanaya is nice also and there is a nice park there to have a picnic.
Will you be going to see the cherry blossoms soon? I imagine there are some good places nearby.

Yeah. I'm a JET.
Nagano Prefecture is awesome for those who appreciate mountain scenery and cool (by Japanese standards) summers.

Sounds like you are not so far from me. You mentioned the park in Kanaya if you mean Wapazawa Koen then yes that is a great place for a picnic. I live about ten minutes from there up on tea mountain in the village of Enda.

I don't know if you are a fan of the Miyamoto Musashi stories but my son and I are going to take a sightseeing trip to visit various sights connected with him. Maybe you can help with a problem. I am trying to find information on the Yoshioka. I have not been able to discover anything about them. If they were indeed instructors to the Ashikaga there would be a record. It is difficult to separate fact from fiction with regards to Miyamoto Musashi. Although I loved Yoshikawa's novel sometimes I think his desire to write a good book did more harm than anything to the memory of such a great man. Any ideas where I could look?

Sorry I can't help you there. I don't think you will find any information about the Yoshioka family in Kyushu apart from what is written on the Kokura Hibun http://www.hyoho.com/Motofam.html
The information on this stone is about as genuine as you will get. I think you will find this is where Yoshikawa Eiji got some his information from before he made up his story.

Thanks for the help Hyaku I didn't think to go there. The kokura Hibun is probably the most accurate source for information. Thanks again.
