You wear gloves under your kote?

Yep, I am a bit of a stick when it comes to stinky bogu. I also wear the under kote gloves to cut down on the sweat and grunge. Hence, my bogu smells nice...also due to the perfume I spray while drying it...

On your Do! ... I see a swastika, are you a Nazi??

Yep, I is.

Hahaha...that's me Kamon. Its reverse anyway, representing the solar cycle and life. The Nazi version goes against the rising sun and therefor represents destruction. The Manji kamon on my dou is a symbol of my religion.

It's not the most flattering pic of you if I may be so bold. But a man? That's rather far fetched me thinks. There are a lot pics of the members here at the infamous pic thread which was kinda red hot at the time. Maybe we can merge both threads.

I forgot that I had this pic so I just thought I'd like to share it. Tanner Sensei from Indiana visited us a couple weeks ago and I was invited to participate in isshyu jiai with her. This is a shot of her hitting sune as I went for men. I was amazed how fast she was and afterwards she even demonstrated the first 30 kata of Tendo ryu naginata (I'm probably getting the name of the ryu wrong so don't quote me on that but I'm fairly sure that is what she said).

Mr. Data: Captain, sensors are detecting another possible troll...

Captain Picard: What are you finding Mr. Data?

Mr. Data: There is a vessel on the border of the neutral zone that seems to be emitting communications... it could be a distress call, but three out of the four communications I have monitored so far are useless, taunting banter...

Captain Picard: Launch a probe and keep your distance... let's see if this vessel provides any further insight into the kendo phenomenon occuring in this sector... otherwise, we'll just make a new course and avoid contact...

Mr. Data: Aye, Captain.... rrrraaaaaaarrrrr, matey! (Opps, mixed up my scripts)

Alright guys ... some people around don't appreciate me a lot as it is ... but I got to help a person under fire, tibetan does have a right to express his opinions, afterall it is a forum, it doesn't have to please everybody ... everyone is entitled to their own taste too, as they say in Latin de gustibus non est disputandum (and noo I didn't make that up on the spot, it is an actual saying), simply put, don't judge a person's taste ... different folks different stroke, I now adhere to Lnguyen's previous saying 'if don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all' ... so Commander, when you asked me if I thought you looked like a man, I posted no responses, and I refrain as 'no comment' ... sorry if you find it offensive, but what does my saying matter for? If you feel good about yourself, no words can bring you down  (I thought that was a rather diplomatic response to the thread ...)

rainmaker

Anyway, if you are under 14, please disregard this my comment. What does 14 years old boys know anyway...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Commander's hair, and since you still havent posted a picture of yourself it just seems kind of lame of you to critique the appearance of others.

Who gives a rat's patootie? Commander let it drop, so should you.

Perhaps that sounds rude and if so, I'm sorry but this isn't the flames section. They've made up and done some kinda weird online hug thing so let it go.

Besides you are distracting from the main point of this thread, which is for everyone to tell all the girls who post their pictures up that they are hot, cute, etc, etc. I'd rather see comments on people's kamae and chakuso than whether or not they're having a good hair day.

You know it makes (absolutly no) sense.

A backinjury put a hold on my flying 'career', which was both a curse and a blessing. I got out of the enviroment and stopped flying and although I still dearly miss it, it's nice to actually have a bit of spare cash again...but yeah, the Pitts is simply the most fun you can possibly have with your clothes on and nowhere near as hard to deal with as people like to make out.

When I worked for the local FBO down here there was a guy who had a pitts but he couldnt do any tricks and rarely flew it. Beautiful a/c though. On the other hand there was a guy here who had his own L-39. He recently flew it into a mountain. Now theres no more L-39s here.

Have you done the Class 1 medical yet?. Before you waste too much time and effort saving up for the course, get the medical done.

Don't know what the rules are in UK but for general aviation Class 3 medical will get you going. If eventually you want to fly as a job then your will need Class 1. Actually you don't even need the medical until you solo but it is a good idea to get it first, not a difficult test to pass but there are some things that will disqualify you.
Next you need to go to ground school. You can do that in person or by DVD (King Schools and Sporty's in U.S. have popular courses) Most any small airport can direct you to a ground school provider.
The airport FBO (Fixed Base Operator) can point you to a flying school. Pay as you go. In the U.S. it costs about 5000 to 6000 USD to complete training.
Take test, two part, and pass.
You are now a pilot.
Fly around until you have enough money to get multi engine rating.
Buy multi engine airplane and fly it until one engine fails.
Die.
Just kidding.
Go on AOPA.org and get lots of information, join and get their magazine and find out about integrated schools i.e. start at zero and end up with multi engined commercial rating ad instructor ratings and college degree (nowadays you will never get a job with a major without at least a BA)

As far as I understand, Commander wanted to go on a ATPL course in the US, so she would need a class 1 medical. Further, since adopting the JAR standard in the UK, you need a Class 2 for the standard PPL. They have since introduced what they call a 'National License' (Similar to the 'Sports License' recently introduced in the US), which only requires a medical similar to racing license.

I thought about going the instructor route, but I've never had any ambitions about flying big planes (Glorified bus-driving if you ask me), but again, with the introduction of the JAR-standard, they removed the BCPL, a basic commercial license, so now, you need the full commercial license if you want to be an instructor...and I did not feel like throwing £15k at that.
Occasionally, I do think that I should do it and go bush flying in Canada/Aus/Africa. No money in it whatsoever, but the flying would be amazing.

Should my work bring me to the US (a distinct possibility), I would probably start flying again, as the cost is half of what it is here, but again, my primary reason for flying, was always to do aeros.
It was more or less what I had in mind when I started learning and got confirmed about 10 hours in. I learned in a small flying group, mainly flying Beagle Pups and Scottish Bulldogs and my instructor was semi-aero nut as well. Normally trained on the Pups, but that day, 'my' plane was U/S and I didnt find out until I got there. My instructor told me, I looked at him, looked at the parked Bulldog (which had decent aero performance) and said, "Can't we use the Bulldog", to which he replied, "I hoped you would suggest that!".
It's formally in my logbook as "Stall Awareness Lesson", but that was basicly my first aerobatics lesson and I knew from that exact moment what I wanted to do with my flying.
Second best memory, was my first lesson in the Pitts. My instructor was the UK unlimited champion and we were returning to the circuit, after the lesson. We were at 1200 feet, circuit height at 800 and he asked for the controls, rolled inverted and did a 1 turn inverted spin, with 1/2 flick roll and called downwind...at exactly 800 feet, 100 knots, heading downwind.

Lots of people use hanging around the FBO as a way to get started in flying and sometimes get paid for it too.

I'm not really sure Jakob but I thing the Class 1 and Class 3 are prettty much the same, you just have to get them more often and there is probably an EKG involved in the Class 1. The new U.S. "Sports License" does not require a medical, simply certification that you have never been denied one.
As to Commander's ATP aspirations, all I can say is talking about it won't get it done, only doing it will. I mentioned in another thread that, if she has a heavy Scot accent, she might work on losing it because if you can't communicate with ATC you are up the creek. Of course when Reagen fired all of the controllers they brought in a bunch of Aussies and now we all say G'day.
I agree with you about flying big iron, nowadays it is like being a bus driver (and not very well paid anymore). I have a friend who was bumped out of his slot at Delta and went with a regional flying little jets. He had not actually done a landing in years and I flew on one of his trips as a passenger. Oh well, even I don't grease them all. At least he wasn't like my partner in my plane who flew on Navy Carriers. I often told him that with a C172 it is customary to flare when you land.

Is there a relation of Kendo to flying??I can tell you that flying would help your kendo. You need a light touch and a lot of subtlety and you need to be able to keep your head together when there are lots of things happening, many of which will kill you. Good skills.

I can't honestly remember. I got mine (Class 3) under the old system and neither that nor my license is currently current.
You now need the EKG for Class 2, but the Class 1 is still loads more expensive, so I presume they do *something* that they aren't doing for the Class 2.

The evilest thing my instructor ever did was to take me over Lakenheath AFB (USAF) just as I was getting used to using the radio...I understand just about nothing that was said, as it all came out with insane speed + a heavy American accent.

I started on aeros just about the same time as kendo and when I started learning competition aerobatics, I was actually taught to 'squeeze off' each maneuver, not entirely unlikely tenouchi!

Trainee day at a military facility is the worst. We have some great controllers though. Once I was coming into Norfolk International in my 172 and wanted to practice some ILS approaches. The controller, a wonderful lady, was really, really busy but fit me right in and never once lost her cool and made me feel very comfortable about being in line with a bunch of 747's. Of course after my touch and go she sent me over to Oceanis, an F-18 base. "541 you have traffick at your 9 o'clock, no, at your 3 o'clock, nevermind not a factor"

Besides i speak polite, i dont speak slang.

The Scottish accent is not hard to understand unless theres some Glasweigans who cant talk properly

I can understand Irish, English, most europeans, Americans, Canadians.

Having worked in Glasgow airport.

I think it really depends on the person who listens to a Scottish person too.

with Takizawa-sensei and his wife. Takizawa-sensei is not only an impressive Hachidan, but also a master calligrapher. knowing my passion for shodo, he gave me this tenugui some years ago:

What does the Kanji mean on that Tenugui? Is it Ken, Ki, and Shin? Or am I just getting it wrong, when it's actually supposed to be Ki, Ken, and Tai?

The first character doesn't represend the Ken for "sword." The second and third one say "ki" and "shin" which mean energy and heart, respectively. I don't think that it's supposed to be the Ki Ken Tai that you are thinking of.

Does that mean the first one could just be, like, a P? :D

Power, Energy, Heart.

Grats on being an Aunt! Seeing that little kids sent me back to seeing my daughter for the first time. They're so cool and tiny when they're born. Good times.

Most babies look like a hamburger with hair to me, but my nephew has been cute from day 1! This was my twin sister's first kid, so he's very special.

My girlfriend's friend has one of those lightsabres. They're pretty damn tough - you can whack people and they won't break at all (yet).

I believe that's rotoscoped, actually. I have experience in the process. ;)
