Searching on the net for "naginata-do" instead of just "naginata" I only find western sites. I suspect that "naginata-do" is not used to for Atarashii Naginata in Japan. Is this true?

I think there is just not that many Japanese sites. I was busy searching for websites and links, trying to find some shops while I was over there.... nothing. I have actually found more about juukendou than naginata.

Well, this site talks about naginata but not naginata-do. I suspect that naginata-do is not the correct term.

According to my instructor in CA, "naginata-do" is a term associated with pre-WWII training. To get away from the stigma associated with that training, the term is no longer used in favor of Atarashii (meaning "new") Naginata which was coined as the replacement term.

That is what I suspected. Thanks for the information!

Mr Sosnowski,
In addition to that, from the AJNF site (history section), Naginata is now written in hiragana. The Kanji of Naginata was used pre Showa 39 (1964). But I wonder if this change is to distinguish the modern ones from the Koryu ones.
Though I thought adding the -do at the end is much of a languae thing... It's like Karate-do... Or say, "playing basketball" is the same as "playing a game of basketball", no?

Acording to an article (http://koryu.com/library/wwj5.html) by Ellis Amdur that is the case. His conclusion is that modern naginata is only naginata in name and not in character :(
Does somebody know how naginata-do was written? I have one kanji for "naginata" but have not seen the -do version.
