The mighty Casey has struck out. Too bad Mexico doesn't get anything out of it. Of course that is one of the reasons the MLB season is 162 games and not just one.

I liked it, hope it continues...Next time though, the DHS needs to put the Canadian bus through a 3-4 day secondary inspection at the border.

Anything can happen on any given day! Cuba against the Dominican Republic, Korea against Japan. Korea against Japan that should be a sight to see. The USA is out!?:ko: My deepest condoleances to the USA who claim that they play the "World Series" but on a real "World" tournament gets struck out. Will this be the end of a Era and the start of a new one?
No joy in Mudville indeed.

I don't see why Korea has to play Japan AGAIN. They (Japan) already lost twice.
Did anyone get Ichiro's comment before their first game? Arrogance leads to lost. Korea is one of the most humble team.

True but US should have lost to Japan. That umpire made a bad call that came and another horrible call against Mexico. I'm glad mexico play for pride and won the game. BUt I got to give it up to the Korean team. They are playing, base running, fielding better than anyone out there. If they lose to Japan in the semi -finals it would be a shocker.

Can't debate the call because I haven't seen the replay but I remember one of my first tournaments where I lost on an "air kote" in second encho. I said to my sensei "That wasn't kote" he said "Yes it was, the flags went up"
the Koreans are definitely playing their hearts out and a hat trick would be good for them.

Valenzuela from Mexico hit a ball out to right field. The ball hit the foul pole way above the wall. The umpire calle dthe ball a ground ruled double. He claims the ball hit the padding on the wall.
When the US manager was asked what he thought, he said," The ball hit somehting hard."
I see what your saying about the call though. Sh*t happens.

Isn't baseball's umpiring the same as football (soccer)? Meaning, they are based on judgment and not video? Even if it's a bad call, what can you say if the referee really believes his call was right?

How about the rules for Kendo Nationals? Is one match the best way to decide National Championships? In MLB the season is 162 games, then playoffs, then world series. Would it be feasable to have two kendo leagues in the U.S. and play a series of matches so you would have to win more than just once and there would not be any question about judges being bad etc. Plus more kendo and more fun. Of course more expense too, but we all know kendo is an expensive hobby. In some tournaments there is first a round robin to determine which teams move up to the single elimination part. That is always more fun too.

Japan lost half of it's games and went up to the semi finals. That is a moronic rule. At least in kendo, if you win, you go up. You lose, you fall. One match is not enough to determine that a team is better, but part of the competition is luck. Korea is a lot worse team than Japan in baseball, but they beat them twice. Japan lost three out of six games, two of which was to Korea, so why should they be in the semis against Korea? Ovbiously Korea would run out of luck by the third game! I don't think any international sports games allow a team to reach the semis if they've lost half of their games. Why? Because 50% lost ratio should make it ovbious you're not top four in the world.
Now, now, let's not be a sore loser. Mind you, this result makes the nationalistic fervour we've been seeing in the Korean press for the last few days pretty amusing. Looks like Ichiro got the last laugh!
I'm not being a sore loser, I'm saying the rules are moronic. I complained BEFORE the match took place. It does piss me off that Ichiro gets to go to the championships after making so asshole remarks, abadoning his team after the second Korea lost, and making stupid comments after the game. He said that "It's ovbious that Japan should win [cause Korea sucks]." If that's the case, why'd you lose twice?

it sucks that korea lost when they won all the games until that last one. but that's how the things went. the format sucked, but always have to play by the rule. can't cry about it now. if there is another world baseball classic next year, they should have better format.

Korea is one of the most humble team. Is that why their player thew the ball in front of Ichiro as he walked to the dugout? Is that why they intentionally hit two Japanese batters? Is that why they planted Korean flags on the pitcher's mound and paraded around the stadium like they just won the world series?
The Korean team played great. They have strong pitching and played without error in every game. They have much to be proud of. It's a team of individuals, and while some are probably humble, some are also not. What Ichiro said wasn't the smartest thing, but it's also been taken out of context and twisted by Koreans to be a direct attack on them when it was a broader statement.
Their fans however have some things to learn about cheering for a sports team, and not getting carried away with nationalist pride. Did you go to any of the games mistabushido? I was at two of their games, and at both they were quite rude and belligerent. They clapped in our faces, yelled insults in Korean and English, and purposefully stood in places to try and block our view. One motioned as if hitting my wife in the head with a ThunderStix when he thought we weren't looking, I asked him what he was doing and he left, to reappear seated at the other end of his group later.
I know plenty of Japanese people, and plenty of Korean people. There is one thing true about all of them - they are people.

It's because they beat a team that they had no idea they can win. Read some of the Korean PLAYERS' comments. I don't see what the controversy is with the flag on the mound. The only people that complain are Japan supporters. They complain about the Koreans taking Japanese comments personally, but a flag on the mound is seen as aggressive. No different from an olympic medalist taking a victory lap with his/her flag raised high. They did win the "World Series", they beat three teams in round two who were statstically much better than the Koreans.

You're generalizing Korean fans from what happened near you? My friends were forced from their seats by a group of Mexicans during the Korea vs Mexico soccer match, do I think immediately all Mexicans are a-holes? I'm sorry you met bad people at the games. Besides that, how is different from a typical American throwing stuff on the field? I heard the Oakland fans throw pennies at Ichiro during the MLB games. How about the massive soccer riots in England? The problem with these Korea vs Japan games is that, most of the world looks for faults in the Korean people.
I'm also glad you took it out on the fans, and not the team. In general, Korean Americans are a lot worse than the Koreans. In the Korea Japan World Cup, Italy lost to Korea. Italiens beat Koreans on the streets of Italy for that. The Italien fans and team could've easily been mobbed by a massive Korean crowd, but did they?
The Koreans show more modesty in defeat. They didn't get angry or shout expletives. They walked out and bowed.

Not sure if I'm going to stay up for tonights game, but I will record it!. If Japan can bring the same pitching to the game as against Korea, they should be in with a great chance of winning. I haven't managed to catch any of the Cuban games, so I have no idea what they're like.

They wont be able to use Urehara in this game, but Cuba wont be able to use their best reliever either. Both teams pulled out their strongest to get out of the semis. I think the current favourites are the Cubans. They haven't been out of the finals in a world baseball champ (like the olympics) for a really long time. I heard they only lost twice in the last 50 years or something. I think both losses were against the Japanese though.

Why don't you complain about Cuba too? Both Cuba and Japan didn't come out of the pools on top. They just won when they needed too.
Cuba's record was 5-3 by the end of the finals. Before the finals they only lost two matches, one in each in round. Japan lost TWICE out of THREE in Round 2. That usually means you fall. Cuba won two out of three matches in round two. So what is there to complain about? I love how you people like to make these excuses. Japan got to the finals in the most weirdest way. They almost don't deserve it. They do though, since they beat friggin Cuba!
Did you see the game?. They were comprehensivly outplayed.
It had to be the rain!! Seriously though, Japan IS a lot better than Korea in baseball. Even the Korean manager said so. Did you see the other two Korea vs Japan games? Korea was still outplayed in those games, they just had excellent defense, and a lucky home run in the first game, and a well played inning in the second game.

They should also mix the semis between Pool A and Pool B. Like Japan should've went against Dominician and Korea vs Cuba in the semis. USA made the tournament brackets and rules so that it would be a clash between them and the Dominican in the Championships. They planned it that way.

I think Korea made like three hits. One of which was a home run. Korea's defense was excellent, but the Japanese defense did just as good. By stats, Korea did horrible compared to the Japanese, but Korea made the points. Japan did outplay Korea. It's like soccer games, where a team might have made that goal, but the other team had posession of the ball more and took more shots.

That's why I'm not shodan. I was merely responding to Ignatz's comment about "aggression." If a higher rank looks down on a lower rank, it usually connects to their capabilities in shiai. I love these type of responses. EVERYTHING is a conspiracy with me. Please give me more than one example, other than this tournament bracket issue. I believe, as well as others (including an ESPN reporter) that the US hoped to face the Dominicans with this braket system.
Both semi-final matches were in Petco Park, San Diego. So what's all this crap about flying around? The Cubans and the Dominican had to come to San Diego from San Juan anyways. I'm sure it'll cost millions of USD to have one of the Asian teams play earlier and have one of the Latin teams play later.

Damn, how did he ever figure it out. We planned it so carefully, numbered swiss bank accounts for the umpires, bribes to the pitchers to lay off the heat, an error here and there. Curses, foiled again. It must have been that darned George Streinbrenner who gave it all away.
I heard Pete Rose had some money on the games too.

If this is true, then you should be HAPPY a team that had a losing record won. The so called PLAN back fired. But now they have 4 years to PLAN another US victory.
They didn't plan a US victory. They WANTED the match up to be between Dominicana and USA because of the MLB players in them. They also made it so they have no chance of meeting till the finals.

Aren't you too old for lame sarcasm like this? When I said plan, I didn't mean anything related to bribery and sorts. I'm talking about the tournament brackets. Are you getting senile?
