Hello,

I am new to the art of Iaido and wondering if anyone has or knows where I can obtain drawing in-detail of each movements. I just can't seem to remember or get it right for this old Australian man.

Or any other reference material I should aquiant myself with.

Also I am disabled and have to do the movement in the (tachi-wasa) standing position. Would like to discuss Iaido with with others with difficulties.

There are some great videos out there that will help you understand what is what in Iaido, unfortunately, I am not the person to recommend which ones are absolutely best. Hopefully, before the Southern Californians invade this thread, someone who knows will be able to tell you, or you could ask your sensei what videos he recommends.

On the subject of getting things right, get used to it. There will always be something to critique. The goal of perfection is lofty and nearly impossible to reach, we are human after all.

Tachi-waza

Doing Iai from standing shouldn't be a problem. My sensei here in Japan (Hanshi, 8Dan) has problems with his knees so does all his Iai standing. Just learn the standing bows. And by the time you get onto the standing forms you'll be sweet.

I train with a couple of old guys whose hip joints have gone. Its no big deal...I am also lucky to know a couple of people who have had polio as children and now hold high ranks (one is going for 8th dan again this year) and another who is unable to move his left arm at all. We had a saya modifed to help locate the kissaki for him. He will pass his 1st dan no problem this year. The waza are modified SLIGHTLY to compensate for these problems, but not a lot. You should have no problems, only pain when you overdo it!!!:D
