View Full Version : nito-noto?
I have read an explanation somewhere on doing noto with two swords, but I cant recall what I read or where I read it. Anybody?

"I have yet to see an effective method for simultaneous noto, but I have observed the technique of sheathing the waki first (using a gyaku temoto), keeping zanshin (as I think one of your contributors noted) with katana, then sheathing katana with both hands."
By further search, I found this. What is "gyaku temoto"?
unorthodox (ie opposite, probably left) hand movement

With regard to Hyoho Niten Ichiryu:
As Peter Boylan mentioned on the other board there is no batto component. We move into maai with weapons drawn. Afterwards we return to a safe distance.
Strong zanshin from the held kamae is observed when both closing and opening distance between opponents in case of a surprise attack.
The drawing simulation is slightly similar to that of Kendo kata but with the Kodachi thrust in to the Obi. Action is of course with both hands, the left grasping the kodachi.
Looking at videos of the 8th and 9th Sohke as well as man to man with the 10th I can see no noticeable changes.
I represent this ryu only and of course I cannot speak for other ryu that formulated Nito techniques.

I understand that there is no batto-component, I am just curious if the noto is formalized, when carrying two swords, not bokuto and shobokuto. You dont put one sword on the ground while sheathing the other, right? As the saya for wakisashi sits rather tight, and the length considered, you dont have to do sayabiki to return the wakisashi, but how do you support the wakisashi not to get in contact with koiguchi?
