Cool deal :D
Did you hear anything about the promotional exams for 5 Dan and above? I heard rumors that it might be at the Kendo Summer Camp on the East coast this year.

My favorite part is when they start disagreeing with each about how the kata should be done. Then you have them sitting on the promotion board grading you and you wonder which way you should do it.
We should all watch the kata video from ajkf before the seminar.

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about the Shimpan Seminar. It was unfortunate that we didn't have enough time to talk about Hantei. But, what are people's thoughts about that new tsubazeriai ruling?

Hi MKK:
If you learned anything from the shimpan seminar, and if you thought that describing them in words only wouldn't be confusing, would you share them with the rest of us who aren't so fortunate to have a shimpan seminar nearby to attend?
Much thanks!

Slidercrank,
Sorry if you thought that I was being confusing. I was trying to get in touch with some of the people who were at the seminar to get their feel for the Tsubazeriai ruling. We have a big Tournament coming up in two weeks so I wanted to get their opinions first and debate some of the components of the Tsubazeriai ruling.
There are several components to the new Tsubazeriai ruling.
1. During Tsubazeriai both Kenshi must have their Tsuba in contact with each other. The Kote of one Kenshi cannot touch the shinai at anytime. The exception is if there is a height difference between both Kenshi. In that case, the Kenshi has the right to do a Tsubazeriai that is natural and comfortable to them.
2. During Tsubazeriai a Kenshi cannot cross their shinai over to the "other side" and keep it there for any extended period of time. In other words, the shinai for both Kenshi must remain centered or of center to the right.
3. Continuous crossing of the of the shinai during Tsubazeriai without doing a waza is not allowed.
4. Impeding the progress of one Kenshi after coming to Tsubazeriai, such as pressing down on the the shinai without doing a waza in not allowed.
5. For Nito Ryu, Shoto/Kotachi on to of the daito/tachi is allowed. But, you cannot score anything with the Shoto/Kotachi from a Tsubazeriai position.
6. Shoto and Daito can be on the same side of each other. In other words, they are not crossed during Tsubazeriai. In that event, they follow the itto ruling spelled out in points 2 and 3.

We really gotta debate this Tsubazeriai ruling :(
If we're not on the same page on this there are going to be a lot of mad people at the So. Cal. Championships with regard to Tsubazeriai.
Oh, one other thing. The Shushin has the authority to make the call of either giving a Chui first, give a Hansoku, or make "no call."

The Tsubazeriai ruling could really mess up some of the "wrestlers" out there. :cross_eye

Hi MKK:
No, I wasn't calling you confusing. I was saying that, if you don't think it would be confusing to describe verbally what you've learnt at the seminar, please share with the rest of us who weren't there. And you have done exactly that. Thank you for typing it out. I look forward to discussions on these rules (which to me, sound reasonable).

Too bad you weren't out there... I would've liked to see what they say about someone trying to score off the Shoto.

oh yeah , then have me start complaining about it , what is nito if you cant use the shoto to score, but that was a clean men strike, a do , or maybe hiki tsuki ..
i had a guy pull his shinai down so my kote was against it , trying to get me a hansoku...wtf,
