  • Request for help in research on kendo!

    Dear Kendo World Reader,

Below is a message from Gil Vicente, a research student at the University of Tsukuba and a Ph.D candidate from the Federal University of So Carlos, Brazil. Gil attended the 2nd Kendo World Tokyo Keiko-kai at Meiji University on July 20, 2013, to interview many of the participants on the subject of kendo, Japanese culture and ki. He would also like your help in aiding his research by completing an online survey on that topic. If you have a few minutes to spare, please help Gil with his research, the results of which will be made available in Kendo World in the future.

    Kind regards,

    The Kendo World Team

Please, I ask for your kindness in answering a questionnaire about kendo, Japanese culture and the international circulation of people to Japan. Anybody that practices kendo in Japan or another country can answer this questionnaire.

Research about Ki, Japanese culture and the international circulation of persons to Japan
This is research about the notion of Ki, Japanese culture and the methods of the international circulation of people to Japan, through kendo and iaido practice. It has been developed at the University of Tsukuba, Japan. The main objective is to understand how practitioners seek to practice kendo and improve themselves through an important concept in this process, the concept of Ki. The aim of this research is to give attention to the experiences of persons regarding this journey of knowledge, and understanding cultural issues about their movement to Japan.

Please, this survey is quite small and your answers are extremely important. The survey can be found at the following link:
    https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Yg00ck8DFFtZrX6LOnG98yC7vcH_6J79_3D1KIo7qHA/viewform

For further information about the survey, please contact me by email at gilvicenteworks@gmail.com or through Facebook: www.facebook.com/gilvicenteworks

The data will be used for the purpose of research, and the results will be made available in Kendo World in the future. Thank you very much for replying.

    Kind regards,

    Gil Vicente

I realize this feeling may be a cliche, but isn't calling non-Japanese "foreigners," naive at best, and contradictory - given some of the questions and the nature of the purported research - at worst?
