    This year, the Summer Seminar always held at Gedatsukai for foreign kendo leaders was cancelled on account of the SportAccord Combat Games to be held in Beijing this coming September. The Summer Seminar was replaced with a Shinpan Seminar for the event. The same thing happened last year because of the World Kendo Championships in Brazil, and the holding of the mandatory Shinpan Seminar....

    The 2nd All Japan Inter-Prefectural Ladies Kendo Championship was held on Saturday the 17th of July at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo.

    With 235 of the Japans best female kendoka representing 47 prefectures in 5 member teams, the competition promised to be a sensational event.
    This competition has replaced the annual All Japan Inter-Prefectural housewives' Kendo Championship due to the growing skill level of womens Kendo in Japan.

  • 41st Osaka New Student Men's Kendo Championships & The 1st Osaka Student Women's Kendo Championships

    On Sunday the 20th of June, 2010, both the 41st Osaka New Student Mens Championships & the 1st Osaka New Student Womens Championships were held at Ohama Gymnasium, Osaka.

    A shiai designed to show off the new talent in each university kendo club, the best of the 1st and 2nd year students gather each year to compete in either the individual or the team events.

    The final results from the 2010 All Japan Kendo Federation 8-dan iaido grading are out. From a field of 149 participants, 31 passed the first stage of the grading, out of whom only 7 passed (4.7% pass rate).

    Multiple All Japan Iaido Champs winner, International Budo University teacher and Regular KW contributor (the Cutting Edge series) Kaneda Kazuhisa sensei was one of the 7.

    The final results from the 2010 Kyoto 8-dan grading on the 1st and 2nd of May are out. On the first day, from 751 participants, 9 passed (1.2% pass rate). The second day saw 12 from 779 pass (1.5% pass rate). The successful challengers were:

    Hi everybody Things are starting to heat up here in Novara. The venue is all set up, with 4 shiai-jo, 2 big screens per shiai-jo and a giant screen at the right of the shomen. 2 sensei were having a Nihon kendo kata rehearsal this afternoon, and a few teams (Italy, Romania, etc.) were training in some sub-halls around. We still don't know if we will be able to use the WI-FI tomorrow, but if we can, we'll try to give updates in real time on Twitter. We will also film quater-finals onward, and upload on youtube in the evening, so stay around ! ...

    Dear Budoka,

    We have some more details for the must-attend event of the 2012 budo calendar the Kendo World Tokyo Keiko-kai 2012.

    Training will take place from 1030-1230 in the No.2 dojo of the Nippon Budokan. The first hour will be warming-up and kihon-geiko (basic practice). After a short break, and the second hour will be shido-geiko - keiko with the attending 8-dan sensei.

    To date, seven 8-dan kendo sensei and one kyoshi naginata sensei have verbally confirmed that they are going to attend. Once we receive their official written confirmation, we will let you know. Also, we are hopeful that a few more 8-dan sensei that have expressed an interest...

  • Kendo World Production Gasshuku

    The Kendo World team has been hard at work at a magazine production gasshuku in Chiba over the weekend. Apart from organising content for the upcoming issue of Kendo World, we also enjoyed a training session, and the mandatory frothy refreshments in the evening. It was great to have the IBU foreign kendo students join us. The next magazine is shaping up to be another classic, cram-packed with the highest quality kendo information....

  • 10th 8-Dan Sembatsu Taikai Coverage
    The 10th annual 8-Dan inivitaton kendo tounament for some of Japan's strongest hachidan masters happened in Nagoya this Sunday (April 15, 2012). Kendo World was there as always to cover the event. The semifinals and final will be uploaded on the KW Youtube Channel in the coming dats. The tournament was won by Tani Katsuhiko, a vice principal as a high school in Gunma. He will be a ref at the upcoming WKC in Italy. His opponent was K. Higashi, the jodan fighter and retired policeman from Aichi. He used to be a kickboxer who went by the name of Tiger Higashi, but the tiger was tamed today in a great final.
