A couple of days ago I began making plans to get the partner into the gym and practice up a couple of new koryu sets that I still don't have worked into my bones. I don't have a lot of time for this and it suddenly occurred to me that I don't really have dozens of students waiting anxiously for this material.

Is it a Brangelina Jenn thing where it's just fun to muck into the gossip?

Why do people on the net set pre-conditions to their study of kendo or other arts? For instance a fellow on swordforum is asking about kendo but doesn't want to study it if it is just points, instead he wants to know if it counts "kills".

I was the rag doll (attacker for demonstrations) for my aikido instructor for years, I ran cross country until I threw up, did TKD and boxing to collect some broken noses. I know that I can go well beyond serious injury and continue to fight if necessary and now I can drive my body to that same injury while exercising normally if I'm not careful.

Where does that kind of practice come from for the iaido-only student? No problem with kendo where sensei beats the crap out of you as a child making you cry and attack at the same time for hours on end but how do we do that for iaido?
