    I did get to visit the highest dojo I have ever been to....an 18th floor gym overlooking Sannomiya station, one wall being glass. Quite unnerving, but not as bad as a previous trip where I was in the window where people walked past and did a double take at iai, then another take on the westerner......

    I should remember it always takes longer than you remember to get anywhere and not to try and cram too much into a days sightseeing. Plan was for Kiyomisu, Kyoto museum, Sanjusangendo and then to Gion district. Problem was I forgot how busy the walk up to Kiyomisu can be and how long you can spend in...

    As usual I wrote ahead and set an itinerary down for myself for the 14 day trip... 7 days training at Seinen no Ie Ozu, down to Kannonji to visit sensei's grave, then back to Kyoto for a bit of iai related shopping/touristy stuff, with night time training...
    The original plan was to hammer away...

    its that time of year where I get the new intake of students....and as usual the need for new kit for them all is coming into play as the wannabe samurai leave and the 'sensible' people are left. The exchange rate is pretty poor though and has stuck costs up quite a lot.... so do I tell them to wait...

    I have never come across this, but do get discounts for my students from a supplier who we regularly order from. I arranged this last trip and said they would mention the dojo name, so I guess there is a discount being used mfor a long term deal. You are right about exchange rates, I have gone between...
