An absolutely scorching summer day in Osaka, the beautiful campus that is Kinki University played host to the 49th Men’s Osaka Student Team Championships & The 33rd Women’s Osaka Student Team Championships on Sunday the 29th of August, 2010.
As the temperature soared to a head spinning 37 degrees, hundreds of students from around Osaka squeezed into Kinki Uni’s gymnasium to represent their respective universities in both a men’s and women’s team competition.
With 8 shiai-jo running for most of the day, the 7 person men’s teams played two full rounds before the 5 person women’s teams entered the competition mid-morning.
During a few nail biting, must see fights between old rivals, many watched eagerly to try and gauge who might have the edge in the upcoming Kansai champs (a top 24 placing in which results in a position in the All Japans) to be held on September 12th.
Overall however, Taidai (Osaka Taiiku Daigaku) took charge of the podium in both the men’s and women’s divisions, with Taidai A and Taidai B playing off for gold and silver respectively, as well as the women’s team snatching first place in their competition.
