• Issue 5.3 Hits the Kindle Store!!

Issue 5.3 is up on the Kindle store now!!

If you have a Kindle or the Kindle app for iPad, iPhone, Android, PC or Blackberry, get at it now. If not, hit the links, download and install the reader, and then search for Kendo World in the Amazon store.

You can download a free sample before purchasing, also.

We hope you like it, and for those who do purchase it, please feedback in the comments below if you find any problems with the issue. We're still finding our feet with this format, especially as it relates to the Japanese characters within the text, and how they display on the readers after making their way through the system to you.

Currently reading it on my iPad right now. Looks really sharp. I haven't bought any KW magazines before and this is my first. The price and the fact I can get it instantly on my mobile device or Kindle really made me go for it. Thanks.

I don't have a kindle, or iphone. Just to be sure I don't spend money on something I can't use, can I d/l this to a mac and read it on there?

      Woah. Way cool.

Yes, just downloaded the reader to my PC. There's one for Macs too.

      I want to clarify something.
I know there is a kindle app for mac, but one limitation that app has is
Kindle newspapers, magazines, and blogs are not currently available for Kindle for Mac
I want to know if that means the KW on my mac or pc.

First issue of KW I've bought, and I have to say that this is fantastic. I've read a few past issues that I've borrowed off friends, but held off subscribing to kendo world in the past because I change my address quite frequently. It's great to be able to download and have it instantly on my PC, and for a very good price! Thank you KW!

Looks iffy, I just tried it on mine and it asked "how would I like it" for my ipad or iphone, no mac option. I am going to get it anyways and read it on my wife's ipad.

One thing I've noticed is KW is not actually set up as a Magazine but looks to be set up as a Book in Amazon. Also, you can always download the sample first to test it out.

JSchmidt: yes I already looked there and they do not mention magazines. That said both mac and pc people should be aware: of http://calibre-ebook.com/ an open source reader for all e-pub formats. that should do the job for all of us.

OK, the Kindle for Mac app works just fine. I tested it with the sample first (didn't realize that was an option, thanks nimrod.) I was concerned about the "does not work with magazines" clause but I guess what they really mean is that the app doesn't work with subscription based services. Works fine for KW though.

Just downloaded it. First time I ever purchase KW (no, I'm not proud).

The layout is not bad but I prefer the way the Economist's iPhone app is set-up to be honest. I assume KW doesn't really control the way the Kindle for iPhone works.

Any chance there's going to be subscriptions on offer soon?

If Kindle didn't work with Kendo World, it wouldn't be up there for download. The original printed journal format was modified slightly to allow it to be viewable in Kindle. Of course, we have no control whatsoever how Kindle works for the iPhone. No, there will be no subscriptions because there will be no need. Each KW journal will be made available on Kindle as it comes out. Will will still be producing the print version as well.

Awesome! It's been a bit of a wait, but I'm very happy now that it's here. Like a few of the others, this is my first time buying an issue simply because I didn't want to go through the hassle with a treeware copy.

Any plans to make back issues available, Alex? How about other KW publications?

So very awesome! I haven't gotten any issues since 2.4 but now all limits are off! (and I'll put my hand up for a yes please for back issues)

      Hi Scott,

yes that is the plan. Mind you, it takes quite a bit of jiggery pokery to change the formatting for Kindle, so the layout essentially has to be done again. We will start putting back issues up one by one. As for other publications, same problems, but that is certainly our intention. It will give me another chance to go through and erase any previous typos that slipped through the net before printing!

Skimmed through it using my iPad, now settling in for a more thorough read.

General comments (again, this is using Kindle on my iPad, ymmv):
      * Price to low! As proposed, it's an introductory offer, but for a magazine of this quality, real price ought to be at least $10-$12.
      * The Table of Contents was at the back, I think it would feel more normal at the front. On selecting KW from the menu of books, the program opened it up to the first article, which was a little disorienting. If it opened up to the cover page or the ToC it'd feel better.
      * Maybe weird to say, but I'd like to see some adverts.
      * Color doesn't show up on a Kindle reader, but does on other devices. It'd be a "nice to have."

The content, as always, was excellent. Thank you for your efforts. I have a year or two's worth of issues, but am more than willing to re-purchase the digital versions, and am looking forward to their availability.

      Huh?
Most books can be bought for less than $10 on Kindle. Why should I pay more for a magazine?. There's no printing cost, no stock, etc.
