• Tip of the Week - OUT NOW !

Now that Kendo World is hitting the social media scene through Facebook and Youtube, we figured it was about time we started bringing some of our content to a wider range of kendo enthusiasts. As everyone knows, each kendo sensei has different teaching methods, but it is the variation of approaches that allows us to better understand kendo overall. We thought we could help out by giving our perspective on kendo basics for practitioners of all levels.

The result is our new Youtube series called ‘Tip of the Week’. We have had quite a bit of fun making the first group of segments, and have tried to keep it as informal and accessible as possible. We plan for the series to follow a logical order starting from the absolute basics of how to sit down in seiza, and it will eventually cover a wide range of kendo ideas and techniques. The introduction for our upcoming videos can be seen below, along with a couple of photos that were taken behind the scenes. The two women in the videos are Shawnee and Jacqui, and they have been learning kendo for around six months at Kansai University. Alex Bennett is offering the instruction, and Taylor Winter is manning the camera.

So for those interested, jump over to our Youtube channel and subscribe. The best way to keep up to date with our Youtube videos will also be through our Facebook account, so liking the page will be the best way to keep up to date with our series, as well as get hold of some of our media which doesn’t make it onto our Homepage (photos etc.).

On getting into Seiza, the explanation and demo were clear, with each aspect noted. Nice!

Just wanted to really thank you guys for taking the time to make these videos, I joined Kendo with a Japanese high school club and so far have only been learning by mimicking and looking in books. Found myself nodding along to the Suburi video, and thinking back to all the times my incredibly patient and helpful kids have been trying to show me how to improve a technique without me quite getting it. It's all sinking in now and makes so much sense - Thankyou!

Outstanding videos. The motion is crisp and clear, the explanations are spot-on. I found several tidbits to take to class - especially the hip motion during fumikomi and the lead step in cross cutting. GREAT STUFF.
I have not been out to youtube to subscribe yet, but I am looking forward to it.

      Thanks and keep them coming
