• The Kendo World Tokyo Keiko-kai - Saturday 30th June 2012

    ********UPDATE********

    Dear Budoka,

We have some more details for the must-attend event of the 2012 budo calendar – the Kendo World Tokyo Keiko-kai 2012.

Training will take place from 1030-1230 in the No.2 dojo of the Nippon Budokan. The first hour will be warming-up and kihon-geiko (basic practice). After a short break, and the second hour will be shido-geiko - keiko with the attending 8-dan sensei.

To date, seven 8-dan kendo sensei and one kyoshi naginata sensei have verbally confirmed that they are going to attend. Once we receive their official written confirmation, we will let you know. Also, we are hopeful that a few more 8-dan sensei that have expressed an interest in attending will confirm in the coming days.

After keiko has finished, we will move to the dining room at the Nippon Budokan where we will have a buffet and drinks from 1300-1500. At this time, we will also be giving away some prizes in a raffle.

Unfortunately, we have to limit the number of participants to 50. Over half the places have already been taken-up, so to avoid disappointment, register by sending us an email with your full-name and telephone number totokyokeikokai2012@kendo-world.com – (please register using this email address rather than through the events page on our Facebook account). The price to participate in this event is Y5000.

All the best in budo and in life,

    The Kendo World Team

It would be neat if you'd sponsor something like this in North America and Europe. Maybe rotate a KW event every year from the Eastern NA, Western NA, and Western Europe?

For the Golden Week training we're not sure on the exact timing yet. We're planning on using the Kyoto University kendo dojo, so we need to work around their schedule, we should get it confirmed early in the coming week.

Yes, this is something that definitely needs to come to North America!
