      Hi and welcome.

In the last Kendo World edition, I seem to remember an article someone wrote about being able to practice kendo in Nepal or the general area. I'm a little hazy on the details at the moment however but perhaps someone with a copy in front of them could provide more details.

As far as promoting kendo goes, demonstrations are always a good thing. If there are any local festivals or large gatherings it might be worthwhile to see about putting on a demonstration. If there's a Japanese embassy/consulate nearby you might try contacting them and ask if they have any employees who are kendoka. Perhaps you could tell us a little more about your kendo background and situation so that we can better address your questions.

      Hi amit,

Thanks to the reminder from David I have the KW article in front of me. It was written by a woman who was visiting Napal and trained with the local kendo club.

      From the article (paraphrased):

The club is in Kathmandu at the "Multi-purpose Martial Arts Centre" and is run by a woman named Shirai Yuki, who is backed up by high grades, often from the embassy. The phone number for the centre is 4362337.

Directions: Go North out of Thamel to Letknath Marg, go downhill to the west and turn right on a large bend in the road that also leads downhill. Brings you to Naya Bazaar. Go roughly left, then head north westerly for about 200m. Locals apparently know the place as the "Judo Hall".

Apparently Mr Adrien Roe (British) is also trying to set up a club in Pokara.

Hopefully that is helpful to you. I would reccomend that you contact the sensei and if you are in Kathmandu practise with their club. If you are located somewhere else, she may be able to give you help or local knowledge to set up a different club.
