• Hozoin-ryu Takada-Ha Sojutsu Kobudo Embu Taikai Video

One of the more well-known Japanese spear schools, the Nara-based Hozoin-ryu Takada-ha Sojutsu style, demonstrating at the 2010 Kobudo Embu Taikai held at the Budokan. Founded around 1560 by the monk Hōzōin Kakuzenbō In-ei. A practitioner of swordsmanship and another style of spear, he was inspired one night seeing the reflection of the moon to create a spear with a cross-shaped spearhead instead of the traditional straight spearhead. This is the distinctive weapon of the Hozoin-ryu.
