  • Osaka kendo training

    Hey everyone,

I've been living in Osaka as a language student now for about 8 months and have decided to pick up Kendo. My language skills are enough now to get me around... basically I have the grammar knowledge of lvl 3 JLPT, but not the vocab. Haha XD

Anyways, I want to know if you can point me in the right direction to start as a beginner in Kendo. Either a private trainer or, hopefully, a dojo where I can join and start to learn. I'll be here for at least another year and a half, and hopefully longer if I get a job here.

    Thanks for your help.

Private trainer? I don't think there is such a thing in Kendo. Would be kind of pointless.

In any case, if you're in Osaka and want to do Kendo, you're in luck. Go get in touch with George over at http://kenshi247.net/. He runs all manner of Osaka-based keiko for international Kenshi.

    Enjoy.

Try http://kendojinko.com/dojo/osaka/osakatop.html. It helped me find where I currently train. Email a group and politely ask if they are will for you to join. I found a few places would only take children as beginners but not many. Expect them to be a little wary at first, albeit friendly. They might just want to see if you will stick it out and they will be worried about communication. I say go for it, it will be great for your language learning and you will hopefully make some Japanese friends.
