There has been a push to have the individual dojos award the lower grades. Hence a Beginner's shinsa.

nah, its more like to shut the newbies up and give them defined goals so that they dont have to keep asking "when do i get to put my hakama on" or "when should i buy my bogu".

theres no official awarding of rank involved.

Know what? That makes total sense.. and it's a fantastic idea.. gives goals and structure. I was always told that 6-4 Jyu were determined with-in yoru dojo anyway....

I'm just glad they don't follow Sumo rules where you can be demoted in rank...

That would suck... What would happen? You confiscate their hakama and throw shorts and a shirt at them?
