  • East coast seminar/shinsa for 2010?

Anyone have any details on the east coast shinsa/seminar for 2010?

It tends to be on superbowl sunday as I recall.

Tentatively set for Sunday, Jan. 24, at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark.

      Typical ethnocentric Americans.........

You might have mentioned 'America' or 'U.S.' in the title......

I was getting all excited when I saw this title - - as I also live on
an east coast - - but in the UK.

Well, the event typically is called the East Coast Iaido Seminar and Shinsa.

I wouldn't be too worried, seems like there is plenty more iaido activity in your part of the world than the US. We don't even have any iaido examinations within our federation.

Here on the "east coast" and specifically the AEUSKF we have one regional grading, usually in January, if you miss it you're out of luck. We also have the Nationals but not everyone can make those. But you can only test up to nidan at the regional, for sandan and above I believe you have to test at the nationals.

You have to travel outside the federation to test or wait for the national summer camp. This can be quite pricey or involve long distances as you can imagine. The result is that in my dojo, I only have one person who has tested in 3 years.

I contacted the VP of promotions for our federation and he thought we only have 1 yondan in the SEUSKF and I know we have a couple of sandans (me and at least one other). Sandans used to be able to sit on a panel, but no longer can. Maybe if both of us pass next year and we can find one more person we can put on our own examination.

The east coast seminar/shinsa is a joint shinsa between at least 2 federations as I recall.
