Thanks! To be honest I was really surprised I passed but my Sensei said my first keiko was very good so he thinks that's what sold the judges. My second one, well, that was.....interesting to say the least.... Let's just say the person I was paired with on that one wasn't exactly by the book. Congrats again!

    A presto.

Juji Kamae and Juji Dome for me have a blocking or defensive feeling. If you want to break an opponents rythm then ensnare thier shinai.... as they cut and you block, close your two shinai together like scissors. You will have them held. Maintain a feeling of tsuberzerai (even if you are far apart) seek an openeing and strike. Do not hold for too long as I have recieved hansoku for holding more than 2-3 seconds.
Use the Juji as a way for kaeshi waza... roll around your opponent as you block and strike to the side of the longsword.. a favourite of mine is kaeshi do. your opoonents arms "should" be held up by the Juji block, your shoto left behind just to make sure.. and then the force of their cut.. cuts their do.. Nice :0)

I'm glad to see you are still practicing nito, and your comments and questions are refereshing techniques in my head and creating new ideas. Thanks for keeping in touch.

    cheers

Hi Raffaele, Suriage is a hard technique for Nitoka as we often start from a Katate Jodan position.
I find that if I deliberately cut badly (too short) this then draws my oponent into cutting me. this then puts my kensen at the right position to suriage and cut my chosen target.Watch out for broken posture.
I have found this Technique effective, and I am constanly searching for ways to enhance my suriage reportoire.
I would advise that you are carful not to fall into the habit of performing a pushing cut when trying to suriage as you will find yourself "chasing" your opponents sword with your own, and as I am sure you know, this creates a big opening for them if they want/see it. The push cut ( where you are really trying to move thier shinai, rather than deflect it) is also a lot slower, and will distract you.
For Gyaku nito I would suggest that you try Ura-suriage. This will leave you in a position to cover,or attack the opponents sword with your shoto should your suriage be lacking.
