Any modern scientist will tell you that fire requires an oxygenated environment to burn. That same scientist will also tell you that the human body expels carbon dioxide with every breath. So screaming and panic-ing will rob a fire of its vital nutrients, thus putting it out. This tactic varies based on the fires size. The bigger the fire, the more panic required.
