Get your sensei to evaluate the fit before you bend the mendare or do anything else to make it hard to return. But new men should be a snug fit.

Dear Neil, thank you for the kind positive rep on the kendogi post!
  2. I didn't opt for anything, that sword is a WWII gunto that was a gift from my sensei.

In this post, you're holding a sword that I assumed is yours. Upon looking at its hilt, I noticed that the classic "diamonds" that are so emblematic of katana hilts are not uniform for the entire length of the hilt; in particular, there aren't any near the middle. There's a style of wrapping (called "katate-maki", opposed to the more classic "hineri-maki") wherein there are "diamonds" near the tsuba and the kashira, and none in the middle; apparently, that's how your sword is wrapped. So, I ask: Why did you opt to have a sword whose hilt is wrapped that way? Is it an aesthetic matter? Do you find it more comfortable somehow? Or was it a sword you were going to acquire anyway for other reasons, and it just happened to be wrapped that way?

Do you find katate-maki more preferable than hineri-maki? If so, how come?

Can you tell me what you think about my bamboo do post?

You can read it under "Bogu" in Forum.

    Your consideration will be appreciated.

cant rep, but thank you for being more civil to the 'newcommers' than I. Especially with the latest one I have had to restrain myself from suggesting he try something to take himself out of the gene pool. As always your maturity and patience are something I can only hope to aspire to someday.

Sorry i snapped at you Sensei. there was no excuse or reason for it. My grammar was bad & instead of being cranky and posting like a grouch I should have went to sleep and rested. I feel much better after napping. Please accept my apology.
