  1. Orishiki do?
    http://kenshi247.net/blog/2009/08/24...-dying-waza-1/
I've been doing it for years, after being shown it by an old kendoka... its hard, but fun.

I had my first training session for over 2 months last week. I have just had a baby (little elizabeth) so I've been tied up.
I may go for my Sandan in July..

Im on here very rarely nowadays.. so If I dont reply quickly , please dont assume I am being rude.

    good luck

    Hi Paul!
    How do you do?
And what is an Orishiki do?
In the last three months my training was focused on my chudan, as my sandan shinsa is day by day more close (june), so i did few nito, but now i will have many new ideas to "translate" from itto....hope that your nito had gone better than mine...

But, in the famous musashikai seminar report on this pages, the musashikai sensei tell to the students that seme with shoto is not only made hitting and suriage-ing the aite shinai, this would be like using always harai or suriage in itto, so i am trying to do something different. for now i try do step in menacing tsuki, even if the opponent is in seigan, but i feel iìam lacking something, any idea?
I will put the same question on the forum to see what answer i get...

    Hi Paulo,
i have a very difficult question in mind today, regarding seme. As my sandan exam is coming closer (sportilia, may/june 2010) i am working on my seme (in itto of course) with some results it seems. Well as always with nito i'am trying to export my itto progress in nito and viceversa. . Up to now my nito seme was more or less the following: If the aite use chudan, obtain a delicate contact with the shoto and then, as i feel sure i wil take centre, move away the opponent shinai hitting a target. If the aite use seigan/kasumi, use the daito like in jodan, menacing kote or men, in this way force an opening or an attack and then act.

The ideas exchange is goodfor both i think (more for me as i have less experience).
The first time i try juji Dome i was inspired by a kata from Hnir, basically the same movement that creates the parry end in a double yoko cut action where the daito hit men and the shoto pulls down the enemy sword. To to this it seems to me that the shoto must be in front of the daito....

Hi Paulo! Some time from my last nito (i am helping in preparing some dojomates for an incoming shinsa). Recently we study suriage in chudan, so saturday i practised some nito trying to execute some suriage waza (expecially men-suriage men), how do you menage that?
In gyaku nito i found simpler to do the omote one (stepping left/back), for the ura version the timing is more complex....
And more, by chance i execute a beautiful juji dome - yoko men (shoto nearer the opponent that daito during parry), have you ever tryed it?

No worries at all, thanks for the posrep!
  8. If the longsword is in the hand on the same side as your front foot, then maintain a feeling of cutting through at an angle (e.g.your centre line goes to off to the left).

As for zanshin, go left or right, go into your opponent. If the strike is good, clean and you are aware of the threat of your opponent you have zanshin. I am working on this myself, and I am more concerned that I "feel it" rather than "appear" to be doing it for bystanders.
When cutting through, think about bringing the shoto to the hip (as described above) this is very useful in helping you to maintain posture.

    Hope this helps..

Ps good luck for Sandan.. I'll be going for it Maybe next year (too busy this year)

  9. Do should be nice and easy. Cutting to your longsword side, raise the shot above your head as you strike, it wil help with the rotation of the shoulders. Cut to the opposite side can get messy, so pull your shoto to your hip, pointing it at your opponents throat as in the Kendo kata (shoto).
Depending upon your feet positioning you can either throw your opposite hip into it and the lowering of the shoto to your hip will give a nice "kick" to your cut .This works best with a feeling of running through your opponent (your centre line goes directly though them)
  10. Hi Raffaele,
call me whatever you like. My name is Paul, however I sign off emails as Paulo.
I'm glad to talk with you about nito. I am far from experienced, but I will glady share what I have done and how well it has worked for me
The rotation Kote-men, works best if they are moving backwards, however If you are fast enough then you do it on the spot. It is just a practice thing.
