    Well, that would be fine in iaido but in kendo it is a bit different...
    However it is hard to comment without seeing what you do and not knowing what that person really meant. We just do not know....

    Talk not to debate any decisions but to humbly and politely ask for any hints on how to improve (your) kendo.

    Failing it means you stop doing the mentoring and concentrate on your own kendo.

    Even if the exam pairing was unfortunate for your, with enough self-control you should be able to perform correctly.
    Especially as it happened at your own club, then you and your kendo were known well...

    Such things are specific to a club and should be decided by your club. Not much point asking strangers. Although calling a non-sensei a sensei is a bit weird and you do not consider them as such, the begginers at your club may perceive the leaders as sensei. So suck it up. Or open your own club. Or...
